I worked at Sysco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very capable food service distributor. They have the capability to deliver product, service and expertise that other are unable to.

    Cons

Gasoline for your car. Need to negotiate a starting salary, don't take what is offered thinking it is the same for everyone. It isn't.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Looking back it was good, at the time I felt some more support would have been good.

I worked at Sysco full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Food discounts and it ends right about there

    Cons

As a low margin business, there is an extreme level of stress to control costs. However, the compensation structure was based on false perceptions of value rather than actual contribution (I was on the finance team and had access to payroll). There are too many legacy players and not enough room for advancement. The company is only competitive due to its size.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house. Get rid of 50% of your excess management and see profits and morale double.

I worked at Sysco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexibility/ daily schedule/ a slackers dream if money is not important

    Cons

Increasing equity price on commodity products made it tough to maintain margins and make money. There were a lot of promises that failed to be delivered on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try partnering with customers needs instead of dictating to customers. Give local ma's the opportunity to make a decent check without constant worry of loosing customers due to constant increases in commodity pricing.

I have been working at Sysco

    Pros

Good products accompanied with logistics. Good amount of sales tools at your convienence. Brokers are made to work hard with sales team.

    Cons

More than average pressure on selling products at an inflated price. Price to salesman can be inflated by 50%. Outdated info on computer regarding all aspects of products. "Not my fault" atmosphere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The ego may need a check.
