I worked at Sysco full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The best reason to work there are the workers. They make it fun and easy. They are professional and have a tons of knowledge on how things need to get done.

    Cons

The challenges are the senior management team. They don't listen to the employees and don't communicate very well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice: Just cause a spreadsheet says its what's best for the company isn't always true. The workers make the company stay afloat by dedication and hard work. Maybe upper management should spend more time communicating with the workers on a daily basis.

I have been working at Sysco full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Focus consultive selling skills to help customers succeed and - in turn be rewarded by customers as well as upper management. Manage and direct own business.

    Cons

Administrative duties, 6 day work week, business expenses from cost of running a territory, poor advancement opportunities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve focus- 1-2 areas - not 6-8 areas at once - connect better and more often to all customers - eliminate multiple monthly meetings - implement better training procedures for new hires include basic business principles and accounting - compensate senior MA's used for new- hire training

I worked at Sysco full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Was a customer oriented company with a high priority on keeping like-minded employees.

    Cons

Has evolved to a Stock Market Ticker focused company - Top line and bottom lines are all that matter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wall Street will tell you that growth and profitability are all that matter. It is all that matters to Wall Street, but do they matter more than your customers and employees.

I have been working at Sysco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is going through a lot of great changes, which will open them up to several untouched markets, bringing more money for the company.

    Cons

The changes taking place at Sysco are causing them to lose site of the employees needs. There is very little work life balance which is conducive to a healthy work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to the employees it will reduce the turnover rate.

I have been working at Sysco

    Pros

Great Office culture, PTO is reasonable with comp, sick, etc. Flexible hours. Work life Balance is ok depending on the department. Some departments allow work from home

    Cons

Lack of training, promotions, pay is not market value. Bonus structure is not great for associates, but instead for supervisors and upper management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop overlooking qualified internal people to hire from the outside. More opportunities appear to available for those from the outside

I have been working at Sysco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

stable, good benefits, work life balance, laid back culture

    Cons

nepotism, there is no formal training for any specific job function, auditors are paid well below the market, because the management runs the department like a bunch of school kids.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep an open line of communication within your staff

I worked at Sysco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, money can be good depending on where you work, stock options are good since that's where they focus resources

    Cons

Commission plans change every year and keep reducing MA income, no job security, greatly reduced product offering over past 1.5 years, regularly cutting commissions, firing a lot people in the past six months since new leadership moved in (OpCo-specific), short-sighted upper management at OpCo level, corporate leadership clueless about what happens at the customer level, seasoned sales staff and lower-level management getting fired to bring in less experienced MAs and management who take less pay, slow implementation of any new policy. SPECIFICALLY FOR MAs: working 6-7 days a week can be tough if you have a family, Christmas and Thanksgiving are the only holidays you get off and even those are questionable if you have customer deliveries the next day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before working for Sysco, I had been working with them in restaurants since I was 15. I had always been impressed by the longevity of employment there because almost every employee I met showed pride in where they worked and talked about how long they'd been with Sysco. Now it seems like they just say how long they have until retirement, if they don't get fired first.
