I have been working at Systemax full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company has a lot of opportunities where a person can make positive change and is not afraid to ask questions. The company is also very supportive of career development and encourages movement within the company as long as you prove yourself worthy of it.

    Cons

This it not a place for a person who is looking for a clear path or a routine when it comes to work. There generally aren't a lot of set protocols and procedures in place. You will have to be willing to pick up knowledge on the fly as you work day to day. You have to be proactive and know where to get the knowledge you need to get your job done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage more interaction between different departments and business units so that we learn best practices. Continue to develop work procedures to minimize the learning curve for new employees.

I worked at Systemax full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Friendly employees (IT Department).

    Cons

Old laptop computers in the IT Department. Working 10-12 hours a day, including weekends (IT Department). The "management" may care, but the higher-ups don't; those that affect your salary and benefits. Most positions have already been outsourced, so I doubt this review will ever be read, but if you do consider a position here, keep in mind you may soon be training your future $10k/year replacement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upgrade the IT Department's PC's -- Visual Studio 2013 is recourse-intensive (SSD a MUST). Try to minimize the 10-12 hour days, with working weekends. It's been proven time and time again that happy employees are productive employees! And hiring 10 outsourced employees at the last phase of a project has shown to be disastrous!

I worked at Systemax full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Employees like to play baseball in the summer. Coffee, tea, and cookies on Thursday. Comfortable chairs. Bathrooms are usually clean.

    Cons

Inadequate staff, low pay, required long hours, routine 12-14 hour days. Managers refuse to approve budget for adequate resources to perform functions. Internal communications are required to be non-retained chat or phone, no emails.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide appropriate budget for resources to perform functions competently and work/life balance. Allow email and normal forms of communication to more efficiently perform job duties.

I worked at Systemax full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Coworkers are mostly friendly and helpful

    Cons

Managers are no help, work is piled on and many assignments are issued at last minute requesting you stay until done - not a good situation if you have classes or need to pick up kids. Many workers are very pushy - requesting that manager directions be ignored. Constant back stabbing - teams do not always work together. For a technology company workers are using very old computers and audio video equipment is not Alwyn set up correctly.

I worked at Systemax full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Had a great boss who was caring and generous (in software development dept.), the people at worker level are awesome here, good work environment, good career opportunities if you work hard.

    Cons

Somewhat limited on raises (but not non-existent), have to work long hours (10 including lunch). The 'facilities' could use an upgrade.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be a little more generous with employees and the return on investment will be great. (Senior management.) No advice needed for line-level management. They we all very professional and great to work with.

I have been working at Systemax

    Pros

You get a paycheck every two weeks. The office is located near good restaurants and shopping.

    Cons

Management team has little knowledge so it's hard to learn anything of value from them. Benefits are very mediocre. Little room for advancement. Not innovative. Little planning, no metrics, bad attitudes, no team environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to you your experienced employees, build reasonable plans and goals and execute on them successfully as a team.

I worked at Systemax full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The employees establish a family culture amongst themselves. Management should look at the benefits of this and try to expand the idea

    Cons

Benefits could be way better - too expensive for hourly workers - keep getting less and less

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at each division and run the company like a big corporation, not a bunch of little ones with an imaginary set of corporate rules

I have been working at Systemax as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Learned how to factory reboot PC Laptops, Desktops, Androids and repackage the product for the TigerDirect.com website.

    Cons

Being treated unprofessional from the rude supervisors and testing non electronic items such as an "Expresso Coffee Maker" or "Ab Lounge" . Also overworked for this coming Thanksgiving with 10 needed hours 5 days a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should never lie about the position or hide the fact that you did not mention one would be in a factory. I would not work here even if I was a permanent employee
