I have been working at T-Mobile full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

T-Mobile is a growing company and is making exciting changes in the wireless industry. We work hard, but the pay is fair and the benefits are fine.

    Cons

As with all large companies, we can be a bit process heavy at times and shoot ourselves in the foot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

T-Mobile could invest a little more money into professional development and continuing education for employees.

    Perception Over Performance

    I worked at T-Mobile

    Pros

Decent office space, every cube has dual-monitors, corporate location near many restaurants and shopping. I worked in sales training and most of my coworkers were decent, hard-working people who wanted to produce training that they could be proud of. The ability to formally recognize someone for a job well-done was nice.

    Cons

The department I worked in had a very "mean girl from high school" feel. There was a lot of silly drama to wade through and slip-ups or mistakes were held against you and brought up repeatedly to beat you down. Performance reviews were based on perception not production. Although I met all my goals and performance objectives, I still received a rating of "not meeting" goals because someone (no names of course, just "they") somewhere at some time THOUGHT I LOOKED upset during ONE meeting. My manager never brought this up, never checked in to see if I was indeed upset and certainly didn't have my back. Then months later during my performance review, it was the reason I received a low rating. It wouldn't be that big of a deal I guess but our ratings affect merit pay or bonuses so this BS perception-based management hits employees financially and professionally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow. Up. There is so much time and energy spent in this mean-girl mode that employees don't trust management to support them and it creates an adversarial environment.

    I worked at T-Mobile

    Pros

    Good market strategy - Uncarrier
    Good compensation
    Reasonable yearly paid vacation

    Cons

Horrible management- strong individual contributors promoted to management without any management training! Recipe for dissatisfaction and high attrition

Very political- play the game their way or leave. No room for me ideas. No empowerment!

No work life balance at all - if you have a family, this is definitely not the place for you. Expectation is work how ever long to get the job done. Tough deadlines and no flexibility. Very little reward. Definitely not a place for new mothers.

HR useless - they are management's mouth piece.

Work environment has changed drastically since uncarrier. They function like a sweatshop now!

Recurring reorgs every 6-12 months - People are randomly thrown in jobs they may not like and there is no choice. Existing employees have to go through the same interview process as a new applicant making situation even more frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote people who are worthy and capable of leading people. Not every strong individual contributor can become a manager. Provide them with extensive training.
Bring back some of the old supportive culture. Develop a policy to help support new mothers returning to work.
Listen to your employees concerns and help them. Don't try to shrug it off as issue that will resolve on its own.
We are willing to work hard, provide us with the right platform and balance.
