    Pros

Good department, coworkers followed values, good work/life balance, competitive pay and benefits.

    Cons

Department restructured. An employee had left, I created applications saving 1000+ hours of work (50% of someone's job). They laid me off. My applications relied on user privilege credentials- once I left they had to hire someone (1.5x my wage) to complete the work. Which meant spending 50% of their time doing what I did in a matter of minutes. Not a particularly bright move. Also created reports which were usually made by workers earning triple my wage.

    Advice to Management

get to know what your employees really do, rather than assuming, before you decide to "save" $$ on you budget.

    Pros

There are many good employees at the contributor level who are very Knowledgeable.

    Cons

Many incompetent managers and senior managers trying to mange technical resources with minimal or no technical knowledge. Zero flexibility and zero concern for work life balance.
    Intense level of internal politics

    Advice to Management

Try to hire or promote more competent managers who would rely more on their knowledge and expertise than politics.

    Pros

My supervisor is very nice. Back when I was an FTE (7 years, laid off in 2012 before the Metro merger), the company was a great place to work with real values in place.

    Cons

The level of insanity rises daily. The overhaul of financial systems is poorly conceived, poorly managed, everything is a top priority, every meeting has 50+ people in it, and nothing ever really moves forward. Meanwhile, PMs either spend 80% of their time on reporting the same status, financials and WBS to multiple channels and get very little time to actually manage their projects, OR they focus on their project and are continually berated in every direction by too many governing bodies who had no value. And when a project is in trouble, they bring in more governing bodies! I've seen some places with tough overhead but this place is ridiculous!!!

    Advice to Management

If you really want to know if projects are viable, come ask the teams in the trenches. Quit hiring more oversight committees which waste money and add little value.

    Pros

Great co-workers and management, good pay, great benefits for FTEs, provided a shuttle for contractors for offsite parking rather than us fending for ourselves in Factoria.

    Cons

none to share, really! none to share, really!

    Pros

Employees are empowered to find solutions. Lots of opportnities to learn, and to grow your skills.

    Cons

Industry is very fast-paced, and T-Mobile is leading the way to change the historical industry practices. This translates into a demanding workload for the employees.
