I have been working at TAMU-Corpus Christi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Beautiful campus, great facilities to include state of the art wellness center. Great benefits. Lots of free events.

    Cons

Working for the state is not as lucrative as working in the public sector financially.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to do all you can to appreciate and fairly pay employees.

I worked at TAMU-Corpus Christi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I had excellent co-workers. Unlike some other universities where I have worked, it is a cooperative and close environment.

    Cons

The compensation was not terrible, but there were really no benefits even though I was working full time. Also, there was a lot of conflicting information simply because of the bureaucratic nature of funding for departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more involved with your employees. I would say the worst part of my work was getting criticized that were assigned to other employees and watching other employees praised for work I did (and accepting that praise).

    Pros

Scholarships are available for international students. Lots of assistance are available to help students in finance especially for international students. Tutoring and writing center play an important part in the successful of students.

    Cons

Sometimes we need to spend a whole hour to find a parking lot. School is expanding different facilities, but not health care center.

I worked at TAMU-Corpus Christi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The best part of this job is the interaction and changes that you make in the students lives.

    Cons

Pay is a huge con, also the under appreciation of the lower paid staff members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more praise to your support and IT staff, they do a lot more than is realized not to mention keeping your lives a less hectic. The support staff brunt's all of the storms and only tells you about the ones that they cannot take care of themselves, which in reality the executives should be handling themselves anyway.

I have been working at TAMU-Corpus Christi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Beach town, laid back atmosphere around campus.

    Cons

People placed in positions that are super critical to the functioning of the university (e.g. hiring, grants management, facilities, etc.) are usually super incompetent and super defensive about their incompetency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so loyal to the deadwood that clogs up the system. I have lost grants due to the mismanagement of basic research services.

I worked at TAMU-Corpus Christi part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The work balance enabled me to prepare for my teaching duties while still having time for my regular classes and social life.

The pay was decent for the amount of work and the support from my supervisor was excellent as well as the opportunity it gave me to work closely with faculty.

    Cons

I though that the mandatory training that they made us do was a waste of time for everyone involved. Every person is different and has different teaching styles and we were all excellent students which is why we had the job in the first place. It might be better to look at the 'training' more like 'orientation' as oppose to the type of training you might get to be a derrickman for an oil company for example.
