TCF is a challenging yet very rewarding company to work for.

    Branch Manager II (Current Employee)

ProsThe people here are for the most part - phenominal.
There is a very strong work ethic and attainable goals.

ConsThere can be a diconnect between departments, causing customer service to be affected. It also makes it difficult to perform many of the duties asked of you in an efficient manner while providing correct information.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on the growth and big picture, penny pinching doesn't seem to payoff in the banking industry in this day in age.

    Great depending on your manager.

    Assistant Branch Manager (Current Employee)

Prospromotion opportunities, gain customer service experience

Consinconsistency in leadership from branch to branch, outdated policies, "who you know not what you know" type of company, favoritism based on years with company, unethical employees, frequent changes, too goal oriented, low pay compared to other banks

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management needs to clean house of unethical employees, especially branch managers. I started in a branch with a very good, ethical manger who made me want to be with TCF forever, I actually looked forward to coming to work. Now I am currently with a manger who is unethical, NEVER follows the attendance policy, takes three hour lunch breaks, has no involvement with operations at all, and the only time you get any one on one time is when they're chastising you as if you're slow or incompetent. I will be starting to look for another job.

Not a bad place to gain some experience.

    Branch Manager (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsYou will gain experience dealing with unhappy customers. Growth to a certain level is very attainable. Most of the people in the company are young.

ConsUnhappy customers because of incompetent employees that are out of your control. Checking account focused, not money focused. It is more of "who you know". Free thinking is not allowed.

My experience with TCF was one of the worst in my career

    Business Side Job (Former Employee)
    Minneapolis, MN

ProsOn a cross functional basis, the people I worked with were great.
They are currently offering above market title, salary and bonus pay.

ConsNo HR processes/practices, no personal growth, no training.

Advice to Senior ManagementTCF it attempting to undergo change to recapture its former standing in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market place. Unfortunately, their current approach to this change will lead them to failure. The leadership style they have hired to carry out this change, a fear inspiring "change agent" more commonly known as "command and control" in management publications is the wrong type for the job. Management research demonstrates that innovative, visionary leaders are the ones that are most effective in achieving the results they seek. It will take another leadership change for them to reach their objectives.
