    VP Senior Branch Manager

Vice President Senior Branch Manager (Current Employee)

ProsBefore TD bought Commerce Bank, it was great! We were all about the customer and retaining them. Building great relationships.

ConsOnce TD took over, they said nothing would change - well it did and fast. The conversion was a nightmare. The pushed and pushed employees to sell products, everything was a number. Then they started incentives for sales, which were not worth it, upper management repeatedly threatened your job, then it got to the point where they started firing staff, even long time good staff. This is being done because of the "numbers" game. The less people in the branches the more incentive money middle management gets! So they don't care that branches are short handed.

Advice to Senior ManagementI don't think senior management is getting the message from middle management about the branch moral. They continually take "the temperature" of branches and ask for input, however, nothing is done.

    Not a Real Bank

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsVery little to say on a positive end. Worked for other banks by far the worst bank. Pay is horrible long hours I was offered a promotion after 8 months of employment. The increase in salary did not match the increase in responsibilities. Branch Manager was never around its like he did not exist. Branch managers would receive a six figure salary for going to meetings and never show up on weekends. The whole structure was a joke At one point I worked 11 days in a row including weekends. all the pressure would be put on the assistant branch managers and they would only make half the salary as the Branch manager.

ConsThey run the place like a gap retail store instead of a bank. Sorry lollipops and free pens wont attract business in a market like NewYork

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at your competitors see how they run things. Stop "shopping your employees" and pay them fair market value compared to your competitors. Its not all about Branch appearance people want quality service with quality products not free pens

ProsVacation sick personal time off are very good. Not stressful when goals required. If do job good get recognize. Ok place to work.

ConsCan be some favoritism. Can be too customer is always right. Too much monthly secret shopper shops. Can get very busy depending on location working.

Advice to Senior ManagementCustomer is not always right. Stick up more for your employees. Bring back the free checking account for 50 plus customers.

Blah work for a real bank

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosnone that i can think of really. Its pretty lame and annoying. They always make a big deal about how there are no quotas, but i could've met any quota.

Consbad pay, because of no quotas. Under staffed, corny, get out while you can its horrible. Go work for a real bank not this loony bin.

Advice to Senior Managementact like a bank not a toy store. Customer service will only get you so far, in the end its all about the money. Keep your crappy pens and loli pops and give more interest.

    TD Bank

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood work environment with management very willing to help with needs and concerns. All in all a good work environment.

ConsThe pay was pathetic for the amount of time and energy put into dealing with customers and the hours worked.

Advice to Senior ManagementAttempt to make it more beneficial for the employees to work at TD so that the turnaround for employees becomes less and less.

Solid company, but needs to really improve on communication (both timing and method).

    Vice President (Current Employee)

ProsDecent health benefits package. Some post-merger work can be interesting.

ConsCommunication on major issues is poor or delayed. Announcements sometimes are vague, generating rumors. Alternatively, some decisions are foregone conclusions by the time they are made. There is still an undercurrent of "us vs. them" since the completion of the merger. The emphasis on ongoing merger activity can be a bit tedious and has strained the resources.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees and your customers. What made either legacy organization special before is no longer true, given the new size of the combined bank. Both employees and customers feel the new bank no longer appreciates them -- which can be an issue when trying to grow your franchise.

A strong financial institution that is held back by poor organization.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    Pros-Generous vacation package
    -Flexible schedules for part-timers
-Fairly easy to get promotions in lower managment

Cons-Poor Communication from Senior Management: During the infamous conversion in the mid-fall, I learned more about our tech issues from the news than I did from our senior management.
    - In the branches, the company has an unspoken segregation between the Customer Service Reps and the Teller staff. Tellers a made to where degrading uniforms and are consitently paid less the Customer Service Reps even though Tellers work worse hours and take care of the bulk of customer needs.
    - "New" computer systems are poorly designed, slow, and have a lot of bugs.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should a lot more closely at the retail stucture that you supposedly bought Commerce for rather than simply looking at the company as a fast way to increase your presence in the East Coast.
