I worked at TD Commerce Bank

    Pros

You can feel proud to work for such a high growth bank. The people are friendly. Everyday is different. Good customer service is the main focus and not meeting quotas (at least not yet). As a CSR information is always available. The WAG is helpful. Compared to other banks TD Commerce Bank will offer more in compensation than Chase, NorthFork/Capital One, Bank of America, and all local midsize banks. I don't know the fate of MR C but it was nice to have him around. I trust Penny Arcade will stick around. And maybe Mr C will go Green. Good bye old Commerce.

    Cons

It is difficult to move up in the company. There compensation is better than other banks but gives low raises. Their % raise increase is a mere 4% which is standard for a big company like Commerce. They don't offer Bonus's or salary to small time workers. Overtime is managed so it is difficult for those who want to make more $. The worst part of the job is GREETING. Oh how much i hated to greet. Yes it helps the customer find its way to the line and sit to wait for Customer service than to run up to them.

    Pros

TD Commerce appears to be a growing institution.

    Cons

Opportunities are based more on who you know versus what you know. Promises are made, but quickly forgotten! Information is not communicated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward on performance & keep employees satisfied!

    Pros

Quick advancement if you want it. Great way to get a title onto your first resume. People are friendly for the most part. Full time employees receive 24 days off per year to start (see below for reason why). Flexible place to work if your in school. Part time plus lets you do 30 hours a week and get benefits (which are inexpensive).

    Cons

Pay here is tough to swallow. They are open 361 days a year which equates to weekend shifts and working holidays other banks and gov't receive off. Management is not always the most professional. Tuition reimbursement could be more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start taking the banking industry more seriously. Demand more of emplyees and pay them more for it. It seems like you allow problems to fester in the branches themselves. In turn, take decisive action and ask HR to recruit better talent.

If TD Commerce has corporate rules and guidelines...why is it that each "store" has different rules

    Pros

The customers are friendly...the co-workers can be fun to work with for the most part.
They also have a lot of locations on the East Coast...for convenience. Commerce's hours of operation are the best....hence America'a Most Convenient Bank!!

    Cons

Management takes care of people who break the rules and Management shows favortism.
The uniforms are ridiculous. Try wearing a long sleeved shirt with a wool vest in the heat and humidity along with dress pants & dress shoes. The only day tellers can wear short sleeves is on Friday..RED then...now GREEN...but Customer Service Reps can whatever they like....Sometimes not so professional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rules and Procedures are what they are ...they were made for a reason...to be followed...not to be bent to each circumstance as they see fit per branch or store.

TD Commerce Bank is a well-managed company where positive, hard-working people are acknowledged and appreciated.

I have been working at TD Commerce Bank

    Pros

This company is very focused on creating the best service based business possible. There is a "No Jerk" policy within the company. There is an emphasis on hiring nice people who can be trained on specific skills, but who already have a talent and personality for helping people. It feels good to work for a company like this when so many customers become fans of what we are doing both in the store and the community at large. Positive word of mouth is the best and most effective advertising!
Also, if you work hard and learn fast you will be recognized and can move up within the company as it is still expanding.

    Cons

Having a flexible schedule is extremely important, which means some last minute schedule changes, including early morning and late evening shifts. Not enough compensation at Teller and CSR positions to encourage top performers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep emphasizing superior customer service at all costs. Continue to invest in training and development, but offer performance bonuses for top performers in all job descriptions. Keep decision-making local as much as possible.

I have been working at TD Commerce Bank

    Pros

If you enjoy a relatively stress-free work environment & even fun-filled at times, if you enjoy working with all types of people, if you enjoy working a variety of work shifts or prefer to work early in the day or later in the day, if you like having occasional weekdays off, if you are good at and enjoy working in customer service, if you like a workplace that promotes from within, if you are looking for an employer that appears to be doing everything right & has won numerous awards for being both a good employer and a good business, then Toronto Dominion's TD Commerce Bank is the place to be!!!

    Cons

Being in a branch (called a "store") where the management team is not supportive and co-workers do not work cohesively as one team, shifting work schedules, not having any real time off if you are a part-time employee as only full-time employees get 23 days off, constantly being & acting "WOW" with customers even when the customers act very "Un-WOW" towards you, retail-type paychecks which translates into low pay and no incentives though that may or may not be changing with the merger, below-average health benefits, working in a branch that is either constantly busy or under-staffed & feeling overworked as well as unappreciated, an undue amount of attention to customers & not enough to employees by management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the poor compensation structure for both tellers and CSRs - $10-12/hour is much too low for New York City! Add more substantial incentives if you're not going to move salaries up and improve on the healthcare & other benefits. Pay more attention to your employees in small & big ways and don't treat them like non-unionized factory workers on an assembly line. Remember, people are not machines - generally speaking, if you treat your employees respectfully, fairly & humanely & reward them for a good day's work then they will want to do the best job they can.

I worked at TD Commerce Bank

    Pros

It's a fun environment, the people are all truly nice and caring people. Good amount of PTOs (especially for the lower-end positions - 24 vacation days for tellers).

    Cons

Typically a very busy environment, at least in the metro NY area, in which case you have to deal with a lot of unhappy customers on a daily basis. Usually 4 days out of the week, while working in a branch, you'll have to close (stay til 8:30pm).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep it a fun environment.

I have been working at TD Commerce Bank full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They'll take you with no experience, and even part-timers get full access to benefits. If you're still in school, they're open so much you can easily get the hours you need. If the team is good, it can be a lot of fun.

    Cons

The hours are long and while they're supposed to rotate weekends, not all branches do. The pay is very low considering how awful some of their hours are and I expect them to lose a lot of really talented people when the economy improves.

I worked at TD Commerce Bank as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Advancement is encouraged and supported. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
Wide variety of people with many different backgrounds, good base beginner job.

    Cons

It was a bit boring, I did not feel as if I was challenged enough.
Could have used more of my time contributing to the success.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
