I worked at TE Connectivity full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The flexible hours were great, but highly dependent upon whom your boss is. The projects are technically challenging.

    Cons

The low compensation for the area results in financially squeezed employees competing with tech startups for housing within the SF bay area. Cost of living in the bay area is significantly higher than the national average.

Self induced bureaucracy adds layers of effort to an already complex engineering tasks. Out of touch management oblivious to the impact of their actions and words have on employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on enabling employees rather inundating them with low value tasks.

Old raychem and AMP feuds are pointless and dissolve any sort of hope in new employees. The amount of motorola nepotism is sufficient to believe meritocracy does not exist within the company.

Communication is a two way street. Having zero rapport with your direct reports does not lead to effective teams. I know that I will not get your support to do my job effectively, especially if it cost money to do so. If I do succeed that success will be immediately marginalized. Don't promise carrots that you can deliver when the only thing you can offer is sticks.

    Pros

This company Offers a competitive atmosphere full of professionals. Although the hours here seem to feel like days, the jobs aren't to rigorous and allow you to utilize your skills.

    Cons

I feel that the vibe could have been a little better. Also, it seems like this industry is a dog-eat-dog world where everyone cares about themselves and there isn't any real "team work".

I worked at TE Connectivity full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Suffice it to say, TE Connectivity went from a place that I could see myself retiring from to a place that I couldn't wait to escape in just a matter of a few years. The benefits are solid, the pay is good as well, but the corporate environment and the endless amounts of politics that come with it were too much to bear. Senior management does a great job of pushing ridiculous metrics onto organizations, then re-writing those metrics.

    Cons

If you've a favorite of your manager, you'll go a long ways. If not, you can go from a great team player to being on the bubble in a matter of months. It's just plain silly. Just silly. The organization as a whole is completely bent on short term within the quarter goals. It's rather disheartening.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management is to really take into account what the people doing the work actually have to say, not just the top plant managers.

I worked at TE Connectivity as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    1. Good pays.
    2. People seemed to have plenty of leisure.

    Cons

I was totally screwed up by the HR. They set a start date with no room for negotiation, then I showed up and realized that my supervisor was on a business trip in Germany. After sitting there doing nothing for two whole weeks, I could actually got started. However, right after 2 months, I was told that I dont need to come here anymore, which was only 1 day in advanced. Besides, the HR told me it was a 6-month contract before I accepted the job, but what I heard from my supervisor was, the contract was at most 2-month. We all know what tricks they were playing...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

maybe you should not treat the contractors as they are nothing.

    Pros

The pay was very competitive. The Managers and Supervisors were fair and great to work with. The campus had a gym and cafeteria.

    Cons

I wish they paid more of their employees benefits and gave cost of living raises. Some management were difficult and hard to work with.

I have been working at TE Connectivity full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great team. We have training classes for employees. Really like the health reward gifts....

    Cons

Big corporation, more bureaucracy. Managers focus only shipments and do not pay more details for R&D and product quality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on quality and R&D. Shipping and numbers are good, but without good products we do not have a good company.

    Cons
