Pros
worldwide employees to work with and as much travel as you can stand as long as its to visit a customer
Cons
way too many corporate initiatives get in the way of responding to customers and actually developing new products.
Advice to Senior Management
lead and get out of the way
Pros
The new people really get what needs to change and are trying their best despite all the people who have been there 15+ years and want to do everything the same way. There are a lot of changes and if you are creative, ambitious and motivated there are many challenges to take on. The products are very interesting and need lots of work. Great for an engineer with guts.
Cons
Management is frustrated with a bunch of people who are trying to keep the company stuck in the past. There are a lot of new processes and things that need to change and the oldtimers complain, complain, complain. They make sweeping generalizations about one or two really tough managers (see other comments here) that are trying to make the company grow. If you work here, expect to work with some really great new employees and some really stubborn oldtimers. When they finally turn the corner, this company will rock.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on perfecting one major change at a time. Retrain the people who are not going along with the changes and see if they will improve -- otherwise they should go.
Pros
There are lots of opportunities for success. Good people. Very interesting products on the cutting edge of health care technology. Pay for performance culture, with lots of recognition programs. If you are willing to work hard this is a great place to work. The management team really gets what needs to be done to grow the business. Lots of room for growth and unlimited opportunities for people who like to work hard. There is strong culture of continuous improvement, and there has been lots of change for the batter over the last couple of years.
Cons
There are lots of systems, and sometimes data is hard to find or not avaliable.
There are some legacy employees that are resistant to change and give the management team a hard time.
Pros
In general very capable people at a technical level. They are willing to share and help you learn. Nice facility and interesting medical products to work on.
Cons
Constant layoffs-3 a year with no appearant reason because there is a long list of openings at the same location
No sharing of long term plans for the business
Everything thing was cost cost cost
Customer no longer the focus
Work enviroment is hostile, especially toward long term emplyees 15+ years
Advice to Senior Management
Remember that there is no business without customers and capable employees to carry out the plan
Pros
Coworkers are nice people who, for the most part, like to help rather than hinder. Most people are very competent at their jobs and smart, but there are notable exceptions. The work life balance is good.
Cons
HR staff is adversarial and often incompetent. Their attitude is to say "no" first. They offer employees the very minimum to keep them from leaving too soon.
They are constantly pruning benefits. This year, the stock grant was reduced dramatically and with no notice or reason. Next year, it will likely be the 401k matching or the stock purchase matching. I've learned not to count on anything.
There is a strong bias against promoting from within. It is difficult to transcend into a Band 3 salary position and nearly impossible to be promoted to a VP. This level is filled by nearly all external hires.
There is always the threat of layoffs due to constant restructuring. This year several VP's were let go, and morale suffered greatly.
Most people I know would leave the company for a lateral position. I feel like I am achieving about 10% of my potential here and am not very proud to talk about my career.
Advice to Senior Management
Change the attitude of HR. Make them more about managing talent and less about finding ways to pare down benefits.
Pros
Benefits, Bonuses, very easy to work with you when you need time off for family or personal needs. Vacation time after you have been there 10 years.
Cons
People would lie about your attendance stating that you weren't coming in on time or were leaving early. I was also told that when I asked for a promtion that our department didn't promote from within their own department. Not enough people to do the work, therefore too many people are overloaded and have to work over time. They also give very low pay raises.
Advice to Senior Management
Believe in your people more and give more to the people that make your job easier. Give better pay raises especially to the people that work hard and you know who they are because they do make your job easier. If you allow someone to work from home and they are getting the job done, and they get more done at home than they can at the office then don't take that away from them.
Pros
- Great market
- Talented staff
- Potential for growth
Cons
For local facility:
- Work life balance is a challenge
- Militaristic approach from some management
- Lacking collaborative leadership to drive effective results
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on strategy and direction and empower managers and key indvividual conributors to drive tactical issues
Pros
Pay and benefits are decent. People are generally nice.
Cons
Close knit groups working together, so it was very clique-ish. Company doesn't deliver on temp-to-hire promises. Many temps were never hired, so there was a revolving door of temporary employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to allow room for growth and advancement for potential and newer employees.
Pros
Good benefits. Good projects to work on.
Cons
Short sighted. Driven by the short term gain stockholder. Not focused on long term growth.
Advice to Senior Management
Think more about your long term stock holder and then you will attract more of them who will stay with you.
Pros
Constantly changing
Advancement opportunities
Challenging
Career opportunities
Schooling reimbursement
Excellent 401k
Medical, dental, flex spending, 401k, vacation, PTO, Commuter benefits, Weight/workout gym, full service cafe', lots of employee perks.
Cons
A lot of pressure to accomplish tasks and or projects. With more successful people in the right roles the company could do wonderful things!! A lot of times there is a lack of resources.
Advice to Senior Management
I strongly believe management is doing a great job. When I get up and look forward to going to my job I know that this is a great thing. I feel that if we had more people in the right roles helping to accomplish great things that we could be unstoppable. This is the first job I have ever had where I have been challenged and pushed to my maximum potential. This challenge has taught me to be a hard worker and stronger person.
