Pros
Easy to get hired. Great people to work with
Cons
Stressful and very hard to succeed in some markets
Advice to Senior Management
Raise the salary. It is too low to keep people around for a long time
Pros
They invest their time and effort to help you achieve both your personal and professional goals.
Cons
There is no work life balance. It is very much a "drink the Kool-Aid" environment where you are forced to share your life with everyone.
Pros
Various recruiter types are pretty good about keeping in touch. You're not completely invisible like with other contracting companies. Quick response from the payroll department for anything timesheet-related. They have summer and Christmas parties. Account people will come around and hand out swag or Starbucks etc gift cards. They will occasionally take you out to lunch - nice, but realistically it's mostly to kiss up to the client. Overall they're above average as far as contracting/recruiting companies when it comes to contact.
Cons
Their negotiating tactics are pathetic. Don't believe anything said on the phone - get it in writing. The account managers are well-trained to sound sincere when they ask "Is there anything you need?", but if you ask for something specific there is never any followup. They are excellent at glad-handing and pretending to care. Frankly, it gets to the point where one prefers a company that clearly doesn't care over one that constantly pretends to. Biggest beef - there was a large layoff; employees who had vacation benefits were told they had to use vacation prior to layoff date, which was a violation of state labor law (acrued vacation = wages already earned). Some employees who didn't know any better fell for it. Tek got paid regular hours by the client and then didn't have to pay out the vacation separately. This hurt many employees financially on top of being laid off, and was probably the sleaziest move I've ever seen from a contracting company. This kind of tactic deserved a poor rating.
Advice to Senior Management
There's no advice you can give to management in an industry based on money for nothing. Warm body in chair? Done. But in a fantasy world, Tek could do a minimal 401k match to encourage participation. If you're an HCE, you get totally screwed on taxes because no one else participates. Advice to employees - if you make more than $53/hr, wait for "the letter" saying what the estimated contribution limit will be for the year and _then_ decide your 401k %.
Pros
TEKsystems is more than just a job to pay the bills. It is a place to build a career. There is a direct correlation between the effort and commitment you put in, to what you will get in return. The training program is very strong and can help prepare anyone who is eager to learn to be a successful recruiter. Long term the compensation and career growth is phenominal but you definitely need to make it through the same challenge of starting building a network and learning the industry, as you would with any long term, relationship building sales position.
Cons
The staffing industry can be very challenging. You are not going to be able to help everyone, which can be very frustrating. With those who you are able to help, not all will be appreciative. This is a client-driven organization, which means that you will not be working 9am-5pm. You will need to be capable of responding to your clients or consultants when they need you, not when it is convenient for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay the course. Hold true to our Core Values because that is what has made our company great.
Pros
Company takes care of their employees.
Pay is pretty competitive.
Great leadership.
Cons
Promotion sometimes is slow.
Hard getting started as a newbie.
Advice to Senior Management
They need to look at the commission structure or the base salary. This company is very profitable and would benefit sharing some of that wealth with the newbies. Turn over seems high, but that is because it is very hard to make it in your first 2 years as a recruiter.
Pros
as a contractor: they look for opportunities for you in their large network
Cons
benefit could be a little better. but that actually does not matter for me.
Pros
Excellent compensation, great place to grow, slowly beginning to make it a long term option
Cons
work life balance is not very good.
Advice to Senior Management
Make it a long term option, improve benefits.
Pros
You will know many tech knowledge for different client, and to satisfy yourself to the job, you have to train yourself. Also, there is a good team to get teach each other.
Cons
You have to know many tech knowledge for different client, especially if you have more than one project and sometime you have to learn how to manage it.
Pros
Offer insurance and expenses for contractors.
Cons
Their contracts are short term.
Advice to Senior Management
Follow up with leads on your contractors performance, and their overall satisfaction more frequently. Express any concerns to the contractor so they can correct or talk with the supervisor concerning any issues.
Pros
Bonuses and profit sharing would make it a desirable job if you are placed in the position to succeed. You ultimately have no choice on the situation you are placed into. Most of the other same level associates are down to earth people.
Cons
Promotes false sense of employees buying into their "corporate culture". Upper management praises how beloved the company was by the employees - however, most of the lowel level grunts hated the job when I worked there in 2006. I was told that I was on the fast track to management, the carrot was dangled over my head several times until eventually being pulled out completely and they found a way to weed me out. Handed in my immediate resignation, they talked me into staying to pull more knowledge out of me and let me go.
If you are smart, run the opposite way of this downtrodden beast.
Advice to Senior Management
Your senior management, although knowledgeable, is not friendly, not personal, and pretends to care about their staff when its just a group of bodies.
