Pros
The front line management are great. Very available, and receptive. The salary would be good if they paid for holidays, any time off or benefits. Project is great.
Cons
Teksystems initial salary offer does not include ANY days off, or benefits. They don't tell you this when they make an offer. I found out after the fact when I was signing the contract - after I had turned down other companies. No holidays, sick leave, vacation or benefits - all are paid for by employee separately. The benefits they offer are very expensive, and the bottom rung.
All of us here can't wait for Teksystems to lose the contract - but according to the confidentiality agreement, we can't work for ANY company at this agency for 6 months after we leave Teksystems - even if they lay off.
Advice to Senior Management
I am repeatedly by Teksystems asked to refer people to your company and I can't. The crummy benefits, bait and switch contract and the confidentiality agreement is just wrong.
Pros
Wide array of job experiences. For the seasoned professional it is a great place to hone skills and work to advance your career
Cons
Medical and Dental benefits are not good.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep working on providing the best opportunities and better pay for your top consultants.
Pros
In this economy, TEKsystems can be a great place to build your resume right out of school and gain experience in a professional environment
Cons
TEKsystems greatly underpays its employees (both consultants and internal employees) and has very little to no opportunity for growth. They have a core set of values that is akin to those of a cult and in order to get ahead it does not matter how well you're doing your job but who you "build relationships with." The company does not care about its employees, the benefits are terrible, the pay is far below average and they expect their employees to eliminate the life from the work life balance they often preach
Pros
TEKsystems is one avenue for finding an IT position which may be a quicker avenue than people who are stuck in the the "trying to get an interview" stage of job seeking, out on their own. It helps to have a recruiter trying to sell your skills to a client. Yes you still have to pass the interviews, but you may get more of those opportunities.
Cons
Once placed in a contracted assignment (this does not refer to direct placement employment), consultants may feel like invisible, unappreciated, disposable cogs at TEK although they are doing a fantastic job for a client. At no time did anyone from TEK discuss let alone congratulate my performance nor discuss any development opportunities with me. "Career growth" was of course non-existent. Communication, responsiveness from HQ regarding important policy issues and changes was virtually nonexistent. There is nothing in TEKsystem's practices towards its employees to cultivate morale, or a culture of trust or loyalty for staying with TEK. In fact the opposite was true and there were many unpleasant surprises that made me wonder how they expect to keep good people. I say all of this this as a consultant who completed a long term assignment with TEK and left the assignment at its natural end and left the client on extremely good terms and have no resentment about the end of it.
Pros
Working with big companies right away.
Cons
Not good for long term security. Just a job, not a career.
Pros
Benefits package
40 hrs a week most of the time
Nice, modern downtown office
Most people are nice
Cons
Very low salaries
No recognition for good employees, this is done at random based on who sucks up the most to the manager not based on effort.
Promotions given to people who say yes to management without considering a risk and these people are quite incompetent and put the business at risk in the first place!
They hire people without a backbone. If you are smart, and can communicate effectively, you pose a threat to them
Lots of middle management who claim to be technical. Of all I know just one woman who I was interviewed by in a different department and gave me a technical test, she was nice, professional and competent technically in interviews, but I think she may have left. As for the rest, the interviews are quite staged and prove my above point of, "If you back up the management whether they are right or wrong, you are in, otherwise, we don't want you causing any kind of opposition to our opinions." Also, as per working here, I observed they want weak candidates to blame in the time of need due to their shortcomings. I guess this is what another candidate below was mentioning about a manager wanting you to report if someone is doing a side task. If that's the case, the manager is incompetent as they don't know what the team is doing.. which brings on my next point..
The managers have to work more with the team, not just delegate.
There is free coffee but it tastes really bad.
The reason I say it feels like a public restroom is because no one wants to stay at this company and so many people come and go, technical people, managers, recruiters and more.
Advice to Senior Management
Monitor your managers in Montreal a little closer, it may give you a big hint on why your Montreal office lost a lot of business.
Respect and compensate the doers of your company - you really need them.
Hire more competent technical people. The quality has gone down in the past two years.
Adjust salaries to market values. You can compare here to other companies in the area and you are way low, especially for developers.
Pros
You get paid weekly very weekly.
Cons
One hand does not what the other hand is doing. No communication between the client, TekSystems, and the employee.
Pros
Hourly rate was decent and I was paid weekly. I didn't have a gread idea of what was required but my recruiter made me confident in my abilities and matched me up with something I could handle.
Cons
They were unsure of when contract would end, and it came suddenly so the communication was lacking on that level.
Pros
Great recruiters and account managers
Decent pay
Cons
Medical benefits should be better.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer a decent medical plan even if the employee premiums are somewhat expensive.
Pros
Very good at selling you to a potential client. But be sure to get the pay you desire upfront. They do have a decent benefits package for contractors, and the recruiters and account managers are generally friendly, and genuine. However in the bean counter room in the back office somewhere I think the recruiters are threatened concerning keeping hourly compensation as low as possible.
Cons
They will first try to undercut your value with a low-ball offer on pay. They pay much lower for seasoned engineers, and have. I have worked for Teksystems on three different occasions, but I have swore them off for good, even though I get calls for open positions form them at least six to eight times per year. However I don't like the low-balling, on one hand and the almost desperate requests made to me to allow my resume to be submitted for positions on the other.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a balance in valuing your contractors as well as the client.
