Pros
Great team spirit and communications with upper Management. The environment is very well structured and organized with a real sense of commitment from Managers.
Cons
There was sometime an inbalance between work and life. You definitely need an attitude of whatever it takes to get the job done in order to be successful in this environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Great team spirit and communications with upper Management. The environment is very well structured and organized with a real sense of commitment from Managers.
Pros
Benefits package
40 hrs a week most of the time
Nice, modern downtown office
Most people are nice
Cons
Very low salaries
No recognition for good employees, this is done at random based on who sucks up the most to the manager not based on effort.
Promotions given to people who say yes to management without considering a risk and these people are quite incompetent and put the business at risk in the first place!
They hire people without a backbone. If you are smart, and can communicate effectively, you pose a threat to them
Lots of middle management who claim to be technical. Of all I know just one woman who I was interviewed by in a different department and gave me a technical test, she was nice, professional and competent technically in interviews, but I think she may have left. As for the rest, the interviews are quite staged and prove my above point of, "If you back up the management whether they are right or wrong, you are in, otherwise, we don't want you causing any kind of opposition to our opinions." Also, as per working here, I observed they want weak candidates to blame in the time of need due to their shortcomings. I guess this is what another candidate below was mentioning about a manager wanting you to report if someone is doing a side task. If that's the case, the manager is incompetent as they don't know what the team is doing.. which brings on my next point..
The managers have to work more with the team, not just delegate.
There is free coffee but it tastes really bad.
The reason I say it feels like a public restroom is because no one wants to stay at this company and so many people come and go, technical people, managers, recruiters and more.
Advice to Senior Management
Monitor your managers in Montreal a little closer, it may give you a big hint on why your Montreal office lost a lot of business.
Respect and compensate the doers of your company - you really need them.
Hire more competent technical people. The quality has gone down in the past two years.
Adjust salaries to market values. You can compare here to other companies in the area and you are way low, especially for developers.
Pros
Career growth
Decent company in Downtown
Cons
Really need to work hard to have things done
Pros
weekly pay
Tuition reimbursement
Profit sharing
Access to the latest technology
Free coffee
Awesome team
Interesting project
Good work-life balance
Cons
compensation could be better, however with the bonus and profit sharing and great benefits it's not that bad. There's always room for improvement.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing, what you are doing. Things are going well. We want to see more presence of the senior management outside the US.
Pros
- Alright place to work. Should be considered a stepping stone to you next job.
Cons
- No sense of belonging
- Most information from upper Management sent via email
- Decisions for profit sharing/salary increases not clearly identified
- Very disorganized.
Advice to Senior Management
Get closer to the employees
Pros
Ambitious to grow fast, since the clients are billed on an hourly basis, if one can be on schedule can manage work-life balance
Cons
"When the going gets though, Though's are Gone!" Many people have left since the last poor market show, Cant blame TEK, However when you ask ex-employees most feel there is no sense of belonging.
Advice to Senior Management
Walk the talk, in order to attact new talent pool of CV's stop displaying dummy job positions
Pros
It's a good place for somebody starting out in their career
Cons
Salaries lower than market average, they promised to adjust that 2 years ago, they never did; I was told 2 years ago that the production support team I am on would have 4 people, 2 years later, we are only still 2 on the team, so one week out of two I have to do night support, which means I can't leave home because the client doesn't allow us to have laptops, plus I don't get paid to be on call, I only get paid straight time if I get called. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy.
Advice to Senior Management
Start treating employees with the respect they deserve.
Pros
Good place for work/family balance
Cons
Poor social organization, everyone work in their isolated project room
Advice to Senior Management
Make for better social organization, comfortable places for employees to meet etc..
