I worked at TELUS full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Excellent training, great "high level" corporate culture, good benefits, Lots of personal growth potential.

    Cons

Lots of empire building, certain areas of the company have different cultural values than the overall corporation, Sales culture disconnected from the rest of the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall audit of sales performance vs. revenue contributions would reveal a lot of discrepancies.

I have been working at TELUS full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good share plan, excellent work life balance and endless career opportunities. This is a company who rides on the cutting edge; if you don't enjoy change TELUS is not for you! Excellent contributor to the community!

    Cons

Salary compensation works on a bell curve. High performers are well rewarded, however team members who fully contribute can get left behind.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation policy needs to be reviewed. Too many good team members have not received comp in many years. Continuing to reward only the top 20% will harm the company in the long term.

I worked at TELUS full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Enough time to learn the job by own efforts. Good benefits.

    Cons

Not really a IT company. After learning the job gets stuck in it, mangement wants you stay in same job forever. They don't want you to master all technical areas. Lots of Favouritism, It's not what you know it's Who you know kind of company. Is you want to do well just kiss manager's ass all the time.

I worked at TELUS full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Breadth of products offered
Okay HR benefits, finally adopted teleworking
    Marketing company
Good share price if you are in Employee share plan
    Mainly EBITDA focused

    Cons

Not a real IT service company (some leaders are not IT and IP literate)
Leaders do not "walk the talk"
Very bureaucratic process, nepotism, and very political culture
Monopolistic approach to employees, market and customers
"Very Tight" command and control style of leadership
Chose to burden itself with old traditional technology
Mainly EBITDA focused (employees and customers are just numbers)

I have been working at TELUS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of free courses, mediocre benefit package. If you are management or management excluded you are treated great!

    Cons

If you are not Management or Management excluded and are part of the union you are the enemy. Management does not like to be challenged or corrected and if you have an opinion you are toast. Do not work for telus if you have lots of prior work experience, Telus was the 2nd worst run company i have ever worked for in my over 30 years in the work force. The only reason I have lasted so long at TELUS is I worked graveyard shift for 4 years so I was protected from the management BS that happens during the days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're employees are you're greatest asset, treat them with respect and get rid of the Fear and intimidation style of managing

I worked at TELUS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay and decent shifts to work.

    Cons

TELUS is a leader in outsourcing work to other countries which leads to job insecurity in Canada. (i.e. Call Centre closures, consolidation of departments etc)
Regular lay-offs about every 2-3 years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the people and the customers
Focus on keeping jobs in Canada - it is not all about the bottom line all the time.

I have been working at TELUS full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Job Security, you will never get fired.
Flexible work locations, most people I know work from home or have the ability too.
Fairly easy to accomplish your work goals, work is not particularly busy
Health / RRSP Benefits are fantastic

    Cons

You might have a terrible manager that is never around/never emails & is hard to get hold of.
The review system makes it almost impossible to get a pay rise.
They dont give new mobiles to employees, mostly everyone has a refurbished blackberry

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a good review of your middle management.
