I worked at TELUS full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Dealing with Customer - Brand Recognition

    Cons

    Internal Politics and mid-level management.
Over Managed and outsourced key areas makes it hard to do anything right

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change Pulse check so people aren't scared to submit honest feedback. Something that doesn't need TiD or link login to submit. Get the real story about how people feel about Business in Alberta and the current leadership practice. The AB SMB environment is poisonous and going against all TELUS values and human ethics. SMB AB needs a reboot.

    Pros

Job Security, you will never get fired.
Flexible work locations, most people I know work from home or have the ability too.
Fairly easy to accomplish your work goals, work is not particularly busy
Health / RRSP Benefits are fantastic

    Cons

You might have a terrible manager that is never around/never emails & is hard to get hold of.
The review system makes it almost impossible to get a pay rise.
They dont give new mobiles to employees, mostly everyone has a refurbished blackberry

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at TELUS full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work / Life Balance is one of the best. TELUS is extremely supportive to it's employees and family members. Very active in the community. Great stock plan for all team members. Lots of opportunity for advancement. Excellent training for both hourly and salary employees.

    Cons

TELUS uses a Bell Curve to treat salary which is very unfair as cost of living adjustments are not made. Average rated team members can go years without treatment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review salary treatment. They are not listening to the TELUS Team. This will and has lead to losing many talented team members

Typical of a large (Canadian) company. A company with such diversity of business has good and bad sides.

I worked at TELUS full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Reasonable benefits. Reasonable work/life balance although it depends on the nature of the job. This company is very keen on flexible hours and working from home so it is great for a variety of lifestyles. They are good at providing the required tools such as laptops, cell phones. There are many business units within the company and therefore plenty of different types of jobs with varying degrees of skill sets.

    Cons

They do not live up to all their promises agreed to during the hiring process. Incentives tend to be forgotten over time. Personal performance reviews tend to be linked to overall wage ceilings as opposed to personal performance. Opportunity for training is restricted by cost and some technical departments only reward those who rate high on the curve following overall business unit performance reviews.

Current Employee - Manager, Marketing in Calgary, AB (Canada)

I have been working at TELUS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing culture - young and driven professionals that work hard and play hard. Exciting brand and products that are leading in the Canadian telecom space. Learning and career development opportunities are encouraged. Flexible WorkStyles - we use technology to work where and when we want. Great share plan - employer matching. And the list goes on...

    Cons

Not all offices are on par with the swanky York Street building in Toronto, Slater in Ottawa, or the soon to be built TELUS Garden in Van. Nothing much else I can think of though...
