ProsTruly a leading edge organization and huge market it owns

ConsConfused and mis-aligned management. The interface between Operations and the rest of the organization remains in the 60's.

    Great career with TELUS

Manager - Planning and Engineering (Current Employee)
    Calgary, AB (Canada)

ProsGood share plan, excellent work life balance and endless career opportunities. This is a company who rides on the cutting edge; if you don't enjoy change TELUS is not for you! Excellent contributor to the community!

ConsSalary compensation works on a bell curve. High performers are well rewarded, however team members who fully contribute can get left behind.

Advice to Senior ManagementCompensation policy needs to be reviewed. Too many good team members have not received comp in many years. Continuing to reward only the top 20% will harm the company in the long term.

Some areas Great, others not - depends on your Manager and coworkers

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsProgressive corporate HR practices, evolving technology focus, great brand, good compensation on average, nice offices (typically), evolving product and service base.

ConsToo focused on sales and sales culture, lack of respect for operations and their contribution to the business. The CEO is a sales persona and it shows

Mostly good but still room for improvement

    Operations Manager (Former Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

Pros- National company where there's a lot of opportunity for growth (promotions)... if you're willing to work hard!
    - Company with a good strategy and corporate values
    - "Give where you live" Program with a focus on volunteering and giving back to the community. The company also matches up charitable donations to a certain maximum
    - Good benefits including stock option plan and possibility to chose type of medical coverage
    - Possibility to work from home depending on your role

ConsBig company with over 30,000 employees.
It can be really fantastic or pretty bad depending on which department you work in and who your boss is - some inconsistencies. A lot of politics.
I've worked for that company for over 12 years, I would say 9 years were really good and 3 fairly bad.
Work life balance can be challenging : high stress, long hours and very competitive environment. Many groups have unlimited priorities.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to work on improving consistency (values and ethics) within your leadership team. Try to stick with agreed priorities rather than keeping on adding to the pile
