Pros
TELUS has some of the best and brightest people anywhere and has a culture of developing people towards higher performance.
Cons
At times, strong business cases and/or team members are not supported sufficiently. The root cause is generally the lack of priority alignment with adjacent teams that are neeed to support the initiative.
Pros
industry is changing and exciting to be a part of
Cons
clunky and difficult to get ahead. The ILM is undervalued by senior level management. ELM policy does not attract talent into operations due to budget constraints.
Pros
- Good opportunities to learn
- Great people who work there
- Dynamic industry which continues to evolve and converge
Cons
- Limited growth prospects
- Pay is not good and often does not align with the job
- Industry is slowing
Advice to Senior Management
- focus on your key people
- innovate more versus reaping the rewards of high barrier to entry
- really care about customers
Pros
- People in the office are nice and very talented
- I've met so many talented people that genuinely care and want TELUS to succeed. They believe in the product and work through the numerous hurdles to make it work.
- Telecommuting
Cons
- Morale is low - incredible amount of fake enthusiasm - driven by initiatives to increase comradery. Lots of free ice cream if your willing to forgo basic wage hikes.
- Wildly different experiences for career progression depending on manager.
- Increasing offshore / contractors with no addition to full time staff
This isn't specific to TELUS, all corporations are like this. If you can ignore the negatives, it can be a decent place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
None. As a publicly traded company you answer to the shareholders and the shareprice.
Pros
One of the few large companies in Vancouver. Lots of room for movement.
Cons
Head office is not downtown
Advice to Senior Management
not applicable
Pros
Flexible work environment.
Competent employees
Self autonomy in most cases
Cons
Decisions making operates at too slow a pace.
Too quick to let quality employees go at the expense of short term financial metrics.
Advice to Senior Management
Do a better job of evaluating people managers' effectiveness.
Pros
I honestly can't think of any pros, except that you get a discount on products and services but that is not enough to make we want to work there again!
Cons
You're paid for 8 hours but expected to work 12! Senior Management is completely out of touch! Promotions and bonuses are based on favoritism and not how well you work!
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to the workers who are in the trenches because they are the ones who know what is actually going on!
Pros
Ability to work from home & flex hours
Cons
1. No opportunities for advancement & career growth.
2. Static compensation plan.
3. Year over year reductions in benefits
Advice to Senior Management
Identify & reward high performers
Pros
- Supports working from home
- People are friendly
- Given lots of autonomy
- Great facilities and work environment
Cons
- Management is disorganized and lacks focus
- Compensation appears to be average or below average
- Very slow moving and too much process
Pros
-work / life balance, allows working from home with full technology capability
-commitment to community and supporting employees to get involved
-awareness in community and country as major telco / strong brand presence
-really good people with integrity and willingness to help
-health benefits are first rate compared to most companies in Canada
Cons
-Pay & Promotion is all over the map and there isn't a process to re-mediate issues. You basically have to leave to get anywhere in this company
-slow moving ship. It's a big company with a LOT of processes. Don't expect things to get done overnight, but they are heading in the right direction
Advice to Senior Management
Respect your employees & customers, and the share price will take care of itself.
