TELUS Mobility Solutions Architect in Toronto, ON (Canada):   (Current Employee)

Pros

busy, full of dynamics, multi-culture environment, good work-life-balance, free personal use of cell phone

Cons

too many processes, and some of them are not effective
too many layers of management, and some of them don't know what they are doing

Advice to Senior Management

Be nimble and be willing to take risk to find out the right and effective way to deal with new challenges and requirement, don't hide behind processes/standards.

Improve knowledge sharing program and infrastructure, it is a 30,000-person company, it is impossible to use meeting to communicate for all critical issues.

TELUS Mobility Anonymous in Montreal, QC (Canada):   (Current Employee)

Pros

It's a big company so it have it's pro and con, good health benefits, in house retirement plan and share plan.

Salary and career advancement are above the average of similar sized company. Not that much training session and outdated technology.

telus

Pros

Scarborough location means shorter commute for people living in GTA east.
Walking distance to Scarborough town center. Not a high stress employer.

Cons

Just an average job. Have to pay for parking. I only got a table for office space and shared the small room with another person.

Advice to Senior Management

lower cell phone prices. people don't have money to pay anymore. lower data plans as well. power phone prices too.

TELUS Mobility Program Manager - Product Marketing in Scarborough, ON (Canada):   (Current Employee)

Pros

Probably the only big pro- the people around you. Young and fun bunch to have around you.
Benefits are good, though the usual round of cuts have been flowing through the system.
Work life balance.

Cons

Lack of career growth. Opportunities are non existent at middle management level. Arbit policies e.g span of control further limit the growth oppty
Overall engagements levels are at nadir. Salary freeze, layoffs, Incentives cut have really impacted morale and engagement at program manager/specialist level.
Manager quality is really suspect. I would guess only 50% of the managers are really worth their positions.
Once the market situation on employment improves, i suspect that attrition rates will increase significantly.

Advice to Senior Management

Lack of coherent strategy
Poor leadership skills. People management at senior exec level is really questionabl

It's a job

Pros

Some opportunities to shine at the grunt level.

Cons

Not a lot of management opportunities. The "complete compensation package" is a load of you know what. Bottom line boys! Bottom Line!!! Retention is last on the priority list.

Advice to Senior Management

Create some opportunities and realize the potential of your people. Step out of the box.

TELUS Mobility Customer Service in Calgary, AB (Canada):   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

The compensation wasn't bad. For uneducated people, they aren't going to make any more money anywhere else. The job is fairly challenging but if you're up for it, you can do good.

Cons

What isn't a downside? Management is very bush league. Their retention plan is to keep promising career development but never give it to you. Finally, I found a better job than the one Telus wasn't even offering me! Smartest thing I ever did. Other than that, the hours sucked, the benefits sucked, and a lot of the employees are overweight union types who have been doing the same job for 20 years.

Advice to Senior Management

Get a real job, work for a real company. The management in Calgary is basically rejects out of the oil and gas industry.

TELUS Mobility Manager, Marketing Operations in Scarborough, ON (Canada):   (Current Employee)

1 of 1 people found this helpful

Pros

TELUS' entrepreneurial environment allows for self directed career growh; work life balance is something that is promoted and exhibited by most senior managers. Because of a skew towards young professionals, culture is friendly, casual and dynamic.

Cons

Formal coaching, mentoring and development programs not a high-point. Although TELUS strives to hire the best and brightest, and manages to maintain a material base of consultancy experienced professionals, it does not pay consultant wages. Bonus program is somewhat generous on balance, however does not allow for pay for exceptional performance which results in laissez faire mediocre output at times.

Advice to Senior Management

Walk the talk and help promote career growth. Dont sacrifice short term stock performance for long term competitive sustainability.
