I worked at TELUS as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great culture, work life balance, friendly team, supporting upper management, overall a very positive experience. Also great facilities (on-campus gym, pool table, fooseball)

    Cons

Not enough work to go around many times. Sometimes you have to do things outside of your interests and job description to be of support to the team

I have been working at TELUS full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

'Work style program' provides flexibility to work at home. Good people. Professional respectful work place culture. Emphasis on values as part of performance review.

    Cons

Definitely not for everyone. Fast pace environment with constant changes. Large number of teams to collaborate with to be successful. You must be able to network.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation system is outdated. Need to consider what truly motivates people to perform.

I have been working at TELUS as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great work environment. Everyone is friendly and approachable. TELUS hires a lot of recent graduates under their leadership development program (LDP) and it gives the interns an opportunity to see what working for TELUS full time will be like as interns are often included in the events organized by the LDP team for their respective departments.

    Cons

It is a very large organization and as a result, they have a very lengthy governance process. Their software development methodology is waterfall, which often causes delays and schedule variance due if one of the steps takes longer or isn't done properly by the respective team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A a new process/methodology (more lean/agile) can be looked into. If one or two of the teams have successfully implemented it, more teams should adapt it.
