    Pros

Excellent Supervision - Reasonable working hours - Good benefits

    Cons

Loud work environment due to reduced cubicle size
Reduction of bonus pool by 50% - You may have hit 125% of the goal set by your department but f the company as a whole doesn't do well your bonus can be reduced. Raises are small as the company likes to "reward on a performance basis ie; bonus (see comment above).

I have been working at TIAA-CREF full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Managers that are in the trenches and understand the employee’s struggles and tribulations and most have practical experience have been at the ground level at some point in their career. Most mid-level managers have a long tenure 10+ years with the company providing a good base of knowledge and help set appropriate expectations.Managers that are in the trenches and understand the employees struggles and tribulations.

    Cons

Linear bottom up progression through ranks, salaries are not extremely competitive, technology platforms are outdated, cumbersome and bulky. Senior leadership exists in a vacuum, huge discrepancy in strategic guidance versus practical reality of life for the average ‘worker bee’. Most movement is lateral throughout the company, very difficult to move up in the ranks without putting significant time and effort into existing role (3-5 years). No salary transparency or clear resources for professional development and career pathing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice? Exercise a pay for performance model that works, recognize individual producer talent and help foster growth, stop hiring senior level manager with no company experience to have a seat at the table when the average worker is struggling to make ends meet. Create a competitive bonus structure based on performance and not handed out based on company profitability 3 months after the end for the calendar year.

    I worked at TIAA-CREF full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They have a great retirement package and benefits

    Cons

The management I have had to deal with were less that stellar. Do not work in Operations! Not good leadership, no work-life balance and they do not practice the company values.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become leaders not micro-managers, actually follow the values that you so want the employees to believe in. You need to put your money where your mouth is.

Best big company pension/retirement benefits, but very bureaucratic culture

Current Employee - Risk Controls Analyst in Denver, CO

I have been working at TIAA-CREF full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Retirement benefit contributions of up to 15% of salary and 401k matches means most long term employees are millionaires. The company's mission is built on honesty and integrity and on helping university, research, and culture institution employees attain retirement security. Very ethnically and culturally diverse management and employee base. Great level of overall benefits including tuition reimbursement of up to $8000/year.

    Cons

Bureaucracy and a very slow to change culture. Uneven execution on corporate changes has caused many avoidable problems for the company and its clients. For better or for worse the company is becoming more sales oriented, like its chief rivals in the 401k and pension arena.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve your execution on key corporate initiatives and don't forget the companies founding principles. Also be more transparent with employees
