Pros
Great benefits, used to have a good pension.
Good middle management and nice co-workers.
Cons
Upper management aloof.
Too much politics and backstabbing, kingdom making.
Not much chance for a promotion unless you know somebody in the in.
Advice to Senior Management
Get some fresh air and become responsive to employees needs.
Pros
There are some very good people at TIAA-CREF. The options for telecommuting are good and flexible work hours are available.
Cons
The frequent reorganizations means you are constantly changing strategy. There is very little team atmosphere and lots of finger pointing. They will work you for hours without even a thank you. The benefits package is average.
Advice to Senior Management
Pick a strategy and stick to it.
Pros
Benefits (though shrinking every year)
Cons
Too many to list.....
Outsourcing everything
Pros
Technology, Teamwork, Telecommute, Transperency and Integrity
Cons
Unbalance brought in compensation, careerpath through Change in management very often
Advice to Senior Management
Think beyond 5 years of the stay that leadership has while doing job switch. People who stay in the organization longer needs proper consideration in role, responsibility and remuneration.
Pros
Competitive salary. Company retirement benifits
Cons
No such things as Team building. Too many dirty politics at work place. Poor management. No career growth.
If you are a contractor..., forget it. A good one word description is 'Sweat shop'.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management is OK but Middle layer needs some leadership classes. Try to identify good resources within company and give some promotions.
Pros
Good people with good skills at the worker level. Some of the senior leadership was good. Decent pay and benefits
Cons
Frequent and dramatic leadership/direction changes. The best leaders are quickly discovered and subsequently overwhelmed with work to the point where they cannot be successful
Advice to Senior Management
Pick an IT organizational strategy and see it through. Constant change is to be expected to some degree, but when it rises to a level that people are constantly in fear of their jobs it becomes a distraction that hampers performance. Recognize that you are overwhelming good leaders and either forcing them to leave or putting them in position where they cannot meet expectations.
Pros
Good pay, good work life balance, reasonably strong supporting cast, major offices in both New York and Charlotte, good benefits
Cons
Slow moving, can be a bit of a lack of clarity around promotions and what it takes to get to the next level
Pros
A good training program, everyone there is very willing to help their coworkers. For the most part we have friendly participants.
Cons
Slow systems to work on. Taking PTO during holidays is a struggle. Some of the training is a bit overkill,
Advice to Senior Management
Please update our systems. The company wants us to reduce our average talk time when they give us agonizing slow programs to work on.
Pros
Good people, truly mission driven. Not for profit heritage
Cons
Employee lack of experience at large financial services organizations, may not recognize competitive advantages / disadvantages.
Pros
Amount of paid time off
Retirement Contributions
Cons
politics
favoritism
backstabbing
lack of promotion opportunities (unless you are "liked" by management)
