Pros
Great company to work for, good benefits, and work on some of the largest industrial projects in the world. Work hard and advance
Cons
Alot of travel to different job sites, so go into it knowing that you will be moving every other year or so. But no real downsides to name of working for this company
Advice to Senior Management
Truely knowledgeable upper management that has been around the block and can offer some great advice to learn from. Keep it up...
Pros
Ok career advancement, and learning oppurtunities. A variety of diffferent project experience. Decent group of people to work with. If you can stomach it long enough, there is a stock plan.
Cons
They will expect you to work out of town all of the time, with a schedule that does not offer much for time at home. Do not work here if you want to be part of your family. They will not compensate you for being away either, they will just say " it is what it is " and leave it at that. As well, be real sticky with your initial contract, because it takes an act of god to change it to benefit you. No matter how good a job you have done, or what position you have moved up into.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat people fairly, and recognise that they are putting they're lives at home on hold to work out of town for nothing extra.
Pros
The employees at TIC are really friendly. Its is like a family enviorment that works hard to accomplish a common goal.
Cons
Very time constraining. Long hours and lots and lots of travel. Very little time for family and kids. Probably not the best career choice if you do not like to move.
Advice to Senior Management
Most of todays upper managment came from the field. They are hard workers who know what they are talking about and know how to run a company.
Pros
They have a good retirement program. and they do alot for the community and they have a wonderful training program.
Cons
They're greedy they have been known to fire people so that they don't have to pay them the incentive bonuses.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your workers decently they are your bresd and butter . You have Barbecues and all kinds of activities for your Office workers and neglect the ones who really do the dirty work
Pros
Flexible schedule, friendly environment, great location
Cons
Small town, not a great number of vacation days
Advice to Senior Management
Doing a great job!
Pros
The only good thing is the way people are treated by the Canadian content
Cons
It is all about the U.S. they think they can do everything better yet it is there people that usually cause us to have problems on our jobs and they do not listen and think more is better.
Advice to Senior Management
You people talk about ethics they you change the plans(bonus ect.) to suit what is best for you and not even think about what others in Canada have done for this company.
Pros
the training opportunities, tic has its own training center at steamboat springs,co.,it offers a multiple of trade training opportunities for all its employees,.tic has several zones or geographic locations to chose from, it offers to all its employee's the benefit to travel between these zones as work will allow. they pride themselves in knowing that we are the best trained and most productive workers in the heavy industrial construction field. tic retains it work force by shifting workers where they can provide the most talent and can contribute to the projects the most.
tic has a great benefits package which includes health-life and dental, copaid by tic with low cost to the employee.
Cons
long hours,in adverse weather, doing heavy industrial construction, some lack of quality manpower, over abundance of paperwork with no clear reason for doing it, lack of supervisiory support.
Advice to Senior Management
overall this is a great company, some middle management needs some guidance on how to interact with field personal,on a one to one basis, without the drama of office politics.
Pros
TIC is a "family" company which is great if you work on a field project. You work 50+ hrs a week with these people. They sometimes know you better than your family.
Because we pride ourselves on being a "family" I have never had a problem taking time off for personal obligations. Most sites will work out a flex-time policy for salaried employees.
Cons
It is an industrial contractor, aka construction company, and can be a little behind the times in encouraging female employees in career advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your employees. get out of Steamboat/Inverness. I think that the corporate offices have forgotten that they are there to support the field, not the other way around.
Pros
People oriented company, good training programs, opportunity to develop or change field of interest. If you are looking to prove your potential with a company that challenges you with new tasks this is the company you would have to work with. You will be heard if you have suggestions or ideas to implement which in return will be awarded with monetary rewards. If the ideas are good you will be paid up to $ 3500 per each idea. Company as whole is very diversified and gives opportunity to excel. Pays for tuition if you wanted to take some distance education classes.
Cons
Less pay for salaried on overtime. Frequent re locations, hard work does not pay all the time especially when it comes to compare with veterans in the company. Most of the veterans are hard working and strive to develop TIC but some people do not realize where they come from and stop doing any productive work, milking the system. Some times it may seem that every one gets the same rewards regardless of hard work but at last the results will start to surface. Patience is the key with this company. People who are not patient enough to see results will end up leaving the company and others keep working for 30 Years which is very typical with this company.
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
There is potential for quick advancement or promotion. There are opportunities to work on projects nationwide and worldwide. The home office is in Steamboat Springs Colorado, a nice ski town. Some of the industries are new and exciting like wind power and ethanol production. Co-workers in general are good to work with.
Cons
I feel overworked and underpaid, and most other employees I know say the same thing. I am sure that most everyone that works for a living feels this way, but the statistics or average salaries that I've researched agree. Too much of the decision making comes from accountants and lawyers from the home office who are uninformed or uninvolved with the specific needs of each project.
Advice to Senior Management
To practice what you preach. TIC's motto is "operations driven" but I often feel bogged down with standards, company policies and beauracratic desicion making. Projects will succeed, and make money if you let people do their job. Thats how TIC became a successful company in the first place.
