TJ Maxx is not a company I'd like to keep working for.

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)

ProsTJ Maxx is good if you have a pet or like to go shopping at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Home Goods. It was easy to get hired and the discount is always nice. I wasn't happy doing the register so they moved me to the stockroom. They do care about their employees happiness.

ConsNot a good job if you're single and wanting to improve your financial scene. Hours weekly are never the same. Wasn't thoroughly trained on the register. I was mislead when they mentioned to me about the way I was going to be trained on the register. Weird stock room hrs to work. And low pay to start

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a better job of training people on the register who aren't comfortable right away.

    *Expectations and work are consistent
*They have an employee recognition program
*You can find really good deals on merchandise and you get a 10% discount

    Cons*Minimum wage
*During slow times, it can be hard to get more than 10 hours a week
*Could work with employees to provide more opportunities for advancement

good place to work if you are in high school

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe best reason to work here would be if you are in college or high school and want some extra money. It was my first retail job and learned many things.

ConsThere is no team work and you will not get promoted unless you are friends with the manager. Also, the pay is very low unless you are a manager of the company. The manager needed more training on how to communicate with employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure you chose a manager that is professional and not one that is unprofessional in many ways.

Good to get back into working....

    Cashier/Sales Associate (Current Employee)

    Prosflexibility considering full-time school schedule.
10% daily discount with "quarterly" 20% days
easy to learn new roles and carry out assigned tasks.

ConsThe pay is very BASIC. So if you're expecting anything above minimum wage, forget about it. You have to be there a 1+ just to be considered for a raise which is based off your annual evaluation. The raise can range from a nothing/a penny to 0.25-0.50 cents(VERY RARE & HARD TO ACHIEVE). Depending on what store you work in will determine how long you will want to stay with the company. High turnover rate. They prefer to hire new associates than to train you for positions you are more than interested in.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more EDUCATED assistant managers or atleast managers that are willing to venture back into learning how to properly a manage and propel their team into success everyday.

    Working 4 years in retail

    Backroom Coordinator (Former Employee)
    Walnut, CA

ProsAt times they can be flexible with schedule especially when school is related.
Able to interact with with friendly co-workers

ConsTo much part-time hire on's which reduces the amount of hours the experienced associated receive.
    Small insignificant raises
Needs better communication between management and employee

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees to be able to have a better working environment in your stores

VERY temporary, NO room for advancement.

    Customer Service Associate (Current Employee)

ProsWork is simple, basic retail environment.

ConsMinimum wage (it takes a VERY long time to get any kind of raise); very few hours, many employees are sometimes rude and unfriendly; poorly managed; LOTS of favoritism among employees and managers, which leads to unnecessary raises and promotions; always issues with employees' schedules, zero opportunity for advancement and growth for the employees who actually take their jobs seriously; most employees are high school and college students who would rather have a social life and not come to work with a hangover the next day, and when people leave and hours become available, instead of letting current associates have the hours, they would rather hire MORE employees to an already over-staffed store.
