I have been working at TJ Maxx part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Close to home, don't have to dress up -- only code being not to wear blue jeans. Nice co-workers with no backbiting & gossip. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

Miserable training. Training consists of 5 hours (FIVE) of watching videos talking about employee theft (shrink) and how to drop a dime on your fellow workers if you catch them stealing. There is HUGE shrink at my store because they have no security cameras in the dressing rooms, and there is NO LIMIT to the number of items they can take into the dressing room.
They should instead have used those 5 hours to train employees on the cash register.
Rather than pay a decent wage, they harangue employees to sell the TJ credit card, which has 26.9% interest!!!
The 10% discount is also very stingy since other retail stores offer 20% discount all the time. TJ's offers 20% once in a blue moon.
Further -- except for the favorites, there is NO advancement or learning new departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize people who do quality work and have potential. Raise wages (this is actually happening in June, up to $9/hour)

    I worked at TJ Maxx

    Pros

My managers always threw parties for the employees or bought us lunch.

    Cons

The pay sucked and so did the hours and it's really hard to move up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep treating your employees the way you do, but pay them better. You're a multi billion dollar corporation for Christ's sake, start paying them more than 7.50.
