    Pros

I can't speak for every department, but here's the inside scoop on search engine marketing (SEM): • You'll get the opportunity to setup SEM/paid search campaigns on search engines, social networks, and industry specific job search websites. In addition, you'll provide analysis and make optimizations for your assigned accounts. This will enable you to build a foundation in difference digital areas (search/social/niche job sites). There are many fortune 500 clients. • You will have a life outside of work thanks to the emphasis on work/life balance. Adequate PTO, semi-flexible work schedule, occasional work-from-home when needed, and Summer hours (leave early every other Friday during Summer). • Benefits provided such as medical, dental, vision, 401k, etc. • The team is social, and participates in happy-hours and company events. Another words, you'll be able to socialize and have fun with coworkers instead of not talking to one another like zombies. • The compensation is fair, and about average for the industry. Don't expect a huge salary if you're coming in with little to no experience. Tenure, drive, and above-average performance will unlock future raises and promotions.

    Cons

    • There's room for improvement when it comes to internal systems and processes • Training needs to be a bit more formal and standardized, especially for new-hires • Upper management needs to create a vision for team members to show where the department is heading in the future (talk about the industry, talk about financial mile-stones and updates, mention areas that need improvement, explain importance of paid search channel and how it fits into the holistic picture.

    Advice to Management

    • Start compiling a list of things that need improvement, rank them by priority, and then put together strategies and tactics to fix those issues. Be sure the team is involved with the process, from building the list to coming up with solutions. It's easy for people to complain about things, but when you layout this framework, you will turn the talking into actual change that will improve the quality of everyone's job.

    Pros

Great experience for someone still in college, but not someone with an actual degree.Summer Fridays, great people, coke machine, great company gatherings, diverse client accounts.

    Cons

Terrible training. Toxic work environment. High department turnover. Not a lot of telecommute. Passive aggressive managers. Does not match 401K, salary and raises well below expectations. Neither compensated for the work/life balance or the amount of work you are required to complete.

    Advice to Management

Hire better management teams. A manager that is rated a 5 will not hire or train employees who are rated 7's, 8's, 9's or 10's. Stop over charging the client and under paying the employees, match 401k contributions for loyal employees, provide departmental paths for promotions.

    Pros

You can really shine if you're comfortable with taking the bull by the horns and owning it. As long as you can provide logical and sound reasoning for taking action, you'll only be encouraged to go for it.

    Cons

If you need training and defined processes in order to be successful, then this is not the place. The people who are the most successful are confident working with ambiguous and somewhat "messy" situations that will require you to roll up your sleeves and dive in.

    Advice to Management

More open communication on the long-term vision of where we want to be in 3-5 years or at least identify what we stand for as a company

    Pros

Cool environment. Everything you would expect from a startup type environment. Employee engagement is positive and for some, the benefits of growth are there.

    Cons

Like any other ad agency, they operate as such. The structure is very hierarchical and is not the easiest of environments to navigate.

    Advice to Management

I do not have much advice to management. It is what it is and the operations of an agency are such. Nothing to point out specifically.

    Cons

Upper management a bit disorganized with processes. Little training (learn by fire). Terrible CRM systems to work in daily.

    Advice to Management

Learn the processes from A-Z to help with direction.

    Pros

You are able to learn a lot in a short amount of time and are given the resources to do extremely well if you put the time in. You may not always be shown how to use all of your resources, but if you ask people will be willing to show you and help you out. Many employees do the minimum amount of work, so if you are willing to go the extra mile you will be able to move up quickly.

    Cons

Some teams are not managed as well as others, and have an extremely high turnover. If you're one of the lucky ones to be put on one of these teams, step it up and you may become the leadership the team needs!

    Advice to Management

I wish top management would invest more in their employees, for instance a 401K matching program would go along way with many employees.
