I have been working at TOA Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for with very enjoyable & professional working relationships across all sectors of the organization, from the CEO to everyone in the Technology Center. Most jobs are remote, work from home office with client travel for on-site requirements averaging 30 -50%. Therefore, great work / life balance indeed.

    Cons

TOA gives a bit too much to their clients in the form of discounted pricing. Should stand their ground with industry standard pricing as our product is far superior to any other WFM / Field Service software available.

I worked at TOA Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Energy, people, opportunitty , colleagues

    Cons

Out of control ego and arrogance at the founder level - narcicism and personality discorders, not to mention running the company checkbook like it is their own. Chaos and dissorganication at every turn, all executives were hamstrung on decision making, ad had no real authority. Company was run by Finance in the end. Micromanagemnt is the norm as the insecurity at the executive level ( founders ) is almost laughable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be grateful you had an exit and kept your jobs. There is an over/under that you will both be gone by Q2 2015.

I have been working at TOA Technologies full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

TOA is a great place for people who like to be challenged and pave their own way. The pay is great for a Cleveland company and the benefits (discounted food, free fruit every afternoon, etc.) are nice too.

    Cons

The hours are long and you're not always given the direction or resources needed to succeed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication and more standardized processes would be helpful.

I have been working at TOA Technologies full-time

    Pros

They pay above the market and they have good work-life balance. It is a nice office which was recently redesigned.

    Cons

There are not too many projects or direction. I was told in my first six months that my role had changed, but no one was able to tell me what my role changed to. I think this happened 3 times.

I worked at TOA Technologies as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Nice int'l employee interactions. Tools and resources to get job done readily available. Excellent collaboration across departments.

    Cons

Culture was very cut throat. Snitch mentality. Family values didn't matter. Will never make 100 best places to work. CEO was a total head case with an alternative lifestyle. CEO bleeds the company of $s for his own personal use. Bonuses were a running joke.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No one should be expected to work 24/7 at the CEOs request, nor should he expect employees to be available on Friday's after 5p. Ridiculous.

I have been working at TOA Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

TOA has top notch technical people and developers. The product is a world beater and "Best in Class".

    Cons

Sales Leadership has a "Used Car" sales mentality and drops price for almost any reason. If you do any sales analysis on most of the Account Reps or Relationship Managers, you will find that it is almost a mind set that TOA should not be making any Implementation or Change Request fees from the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to protect sales by doing the due diligence as far as contracts. The company lost a ton of money on Time Warner Cable because it failed to protect itself contractually and then when TWC got purchased, the sale was cancelled. Top executives should have been dismissed over this instead of the implementation team involved as the team did everything that was asked of it.

I worked at TOA Technologies as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

A SaaS/Cloud/turnkey product that works well. Contractors well compensated.

    Cons

Product needs lots of tweaking to perform well, and also depends upon a sometimes hostile workforce to succeed. Contractors are randomly denied access to technical documentation. Arrogant and trigger-happy executive mgmt doesn't understand that it's not just the product, it's the implementation and the customer relationship as well. A 21st century product demands 21st century implementation practices, not an outdated waterfall methodology that encourages excessive documentation, meetings, and therefore only serves to provide managers w/ something to manage. Hyper paranoid about security. New customers get all the attention and therefore all of the resources. 24/7 "always on" culture discourages improvements in efficiency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop sending fake spam to your employees, it's painfully obvious. Overwork leads to poor performance, burnout, and excessive turnover. Stop micromanaging - does the co-founder really need to approve a biz req's doc? Doesn't he have anything better to do? Do not try to intimidate your employees. Do not EVER accuse an employee of lying unless you can back it up. And NEVER, EVER do this in front of other employees, after hours, while you have a beer in your hand. It's extremely unprofessional and also, lo and behold, leads to excessive turnover. Finally, to insist that employees scrub their LinkedIn profiles of TOA client names because of legal concerns is completely idiotic.
