I worked at TRACO as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

HR Manager is excellent. Work is challenging, People are loyal to each other. Very complex 3 plant system. Managers have very good intentions. Lot's to learn and even more to do.

    Cons

Managers still learning the Window business. Downsizing might still be ahead. If you have a "Volunteer" spirit, Forget it - You'll burn yourself out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Call NYC and ask them to open a door to sell a skyscraper. Sell larger jobs as was done before the acquisition.

I worked at TRACO full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    I had insurance and 401k.

    Cons

I am not racist so I will say that there is a lot of discrimination against many people and this does not include african american people. I saw too much of this. Management was afraid to say or do anything towards these people, no matter what they did. They where afraid to. This is not right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be fair to all employees, this means stop letting people brown noise. Too many come to work and beat there time in and get paid the same as everyone else. They need to start pulling there own weight.

    I worked at TRACO

    Pros

Good people to work with. Management was very fair and informative. The company as a whole seemed to treat their employees with a lot of respect.

    Cons

Working conditions were not optimal. Safety was a slight issue where I was working. The company was very strict when it came to minor injuries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working as a team environment. Possibly, increase the number of safety meetings, or have more required safety seminars. Overall, a decent place to work.

    I worked at TRACO

    Pros

    - As a stepping stone to other more rewarding careers.
    - Your starting out and you need an hourly job to put yourself through college.
    - Lunch is on you? As a cost saving measure, even if you are overnight on company business.
    - You want estimating to take 3 weeks instead of 3 days to get a quote out
    - They have an award winning web page?

    Cons

    - Job security is an issue.
    - TRACO has an issue supporting the dealer base in any type of consumer claims.
    - Products are expensive compared to other window companies getting the job done in the field.
    - Employee Morale is very low.
    - One person is recognized each year as the leader in sales.
    - You have to use your vacation each year or you will lose it. You are required to use vacation in weekly increments.
    - 401K choices are weak.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep selling off company assets to former Republic Window Company Senior Managers (ECHO Windows now in Red Oak, IA) and eliminating the staff, soon you will get to the root of the problem.
