    Pros

Ad a government agency, you are offered a benefits package after 3 months. But you have to pay a portion of it.

    Cons

Working for TSA you are always blamed for everything that goes wrong with the travel industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to your employees.

I have been working at TSA

    Pros

The pay and benefits are ok

    Cons

Officers take abuse in a daily basis. Superiors only care about passengers and stake holders. Advancements are based on "who you know"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the pay raise freeze and appreciate your officers. It would make for a much better experience for employees as well as passengers. How can you expect employees to be pleasant when they are mistreated my management.

I have been working at TSA full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It was not the best place to work but it did have good benefits and good pay, so take it for what it is. the work-life balance is not good, but the job is not very difficult anyway. the hours may be very poor.

    Cons

the management is not the best, and they don't seem to care to listen to anyone no matter what the issue may be. There is little personal growth, and the work culture is not very good either. I would suggest choosing a different line of work if you have the option.

I worked at TSA full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Benefits. Good entry level position.

    Cons

Insecure management, don't care about your personal life though they say they do, can't think outside of the box.
Poor pay for the responsibility the job entails. No room for growth, no consideration of education background and skills. Locality pay not offered in some airports that need it. Promise of bonus but then does not deliver if you are no longer on duty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before saying "no" to transfer requests, see if you can make it happen. A lot of depressed TSO's out there that are "stuck" in their job and cannot leave. Work on the floor once in a while, it is easy to forget what your front line is going through every day!

    I worked at TSA

    Pros

Great pay, uniform a plus, friendly team work unit.

    Cons

Stressful at times. And very repetitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating staff like their contribution to the workload is not a benefit to the company.

  9.

I have been working at TSA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady income, decent benefits, matching 401K-like plan, and interesting. A good opportunity to see people from all walks of life in the workforce and the crowds. Decent opportunity for those without specialized training or college degrees. Ability to transfer to other areas all over the nation, wherever there is airport with federalized security.

    Cons

Changes to small details make it hard to keep up on everything you need to know to perform your duties. No flight benefits. Your environment can be depressing after a while. Not all that interesting after a few years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a better way of recruiting and holding on to the best employees. Give bonuses for people who meet expectations like other companies do. This would help the retention problem.

I worked at TSA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Meeting people from different walks of life, interacting with the public including famous people in political arena, to entertainment field.

    Cons

long hours, forced overtime, no balance between work and family time, employees that are back stabbers, favored staff , supervisors are not on same page.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to the employees, accommodate them to some degree, don't steal their ideals and then say its yours.. value them and they will be more productive

I have been working at TSA full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I left TSA a month ago and was a J band with basically nothing to do since the reorganization. So Pro would be getting paid a nice pay check for nothing. Also, Tele commute was awesome could sleep on the couch and monitor my laptop! Retirement for a few years of work is also cool.

    Cons

TSA listens to so called contracting experts who started some BS life balance approach basically it's a scheme to get better marks on job satisfaction while you let good employees turn into lazy bums and bad employees just do what they do everyday NOTHING.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to the old ORG chart and let the J and K bands manage the people instead of them managing themselves. There are K bands walking the halls that don't manage anyone. This contractor that suggested this was a joke even the stakeholders are pissed off and don't even work with TSA anymore. It's like the mutiny on kane
