I have been working at TSA (Transportation Security Administration) part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Starting wage, scheduled raises, paid time off, government benefits, great place for exposure to working with thousands of people a day, a whole lot of overtime offered.

    Cons

A whole lot of negative employees, much left to be desired from a majority of management, job responsibilities constantly change yet there is little to no training, all said it is a challenging environment to operate in and even with the cons TSA does strive to provide excellent public service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

more emphasis on training rather then discipline.

I have been working at TSA (Transportation Security Administration) full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some good government benefits, too bad all the annual leave is blocked out for the entire year by the end of January so you have to get lucky to get a day off.

    Cons

Poor management, can't make up their mind about procedures. One supervisor will tell you something different than another supervisor.
Management is more concerned with the throughput numbers than the staff.

I have been working at TSA (Transportation Security Administration) part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I worked with some good people, and the benefits were OK

    Cons

Management does not trust or respect it's employees. When you first get hired with TSA, they want you to work part time. After a year or so, they want to promote you to full time: and after a few more years they want to get rid you.

It can be difficult to get the time off that you need.

The hours that you work are variable, depending on "operational needs".

Management is incapable of reforming and policing itself. They tend to promote employees who they are having relationships with, instead of promoting people who are the best qualified for positions based on experience, skills, education, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To senior management: Put educated and experienced people in high-level positions. The current management has no people skills, team building skills, common sense, compassion, and no level of trust with subordinates.

Why not retain good employees, instead of driving them away?

I have been working at TSA (Transportation Security Administration) full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The benefits (insurance, retirement, annual leave & sick leave) are the only saving grace of this job, and the primary reason many people choose to work here part time.

    Cons

There is no intrinsic value or personal satisfaction from doing this job. You are treated like crap, and have no lotus of control over your working conditions, rotations, scheduling, and hours worked. The public does not appreciate what you do. In short, you become an overworked underling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like respectable human beings.

I have been working at TSA (Transportation Security Administration) full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good Government Benefits which may be the same as any other government agency benefits. It is inside work and you have some air conditioning and some heat.

    Cons

Rude and selfish passengers, scheming co-workers, incompetent leadership, ridiculous rules, absurd human resource regulations and the ability to make you work 30 days without pay during the government shut-down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No loop holes, no exceptions, 3rd time violators should be placed on the "No Fly List"

I worked at TSA (Transportation Security Administration)

    Pros

The pay is not bad for the locations, especially if you only have a high school diploma or GED.

    Cons

The basic requirement is a GED. There is no reward for education or military service, the leadership of this organization is a joke. They take care of themselves and don't care about the hard workers that actually do the leg work to keep the flying public safe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of the good employees and get rid of the trouble makers or you will loose all the employees who care about collecting more than a paycheck.
