Former Employee - Process Engineer in Hsin-chu (Taiwan)

I worked at TSMC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

good salary comparing to most company in Taiwan, benefits also outstanding. Boss always ask you to have vacation as much as possible....

    Cons

too much work, work-life balance isn't easy, routine job, not creative at all. Training at the beginning isn't enough, always saying like this: Learn when you are doing your job. The profession that you learn from company isn't easily allied to job in other company, unless you go to another semiconductor company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not take your employee as a non-stop machine and no need to take a rest. Work-life balance is not only a slogan, for people on the top, it's easy, but not for the bottom. As a former small engineer, I would say too much work and too less people in tsmc. I wish it could be different, after all, it's still the 1st rank company in Taiwan.

I worked at TSMC full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

TSMC RD has very good organization function design to develop many different tecnnology nodes in parallel. 10 years there are only two platforms in RD organization to develop two generations technology nodes in paraellel, In the last 5 years , TSMC RD organization was redesign by module process function , not by tecnhology node. So new RD organization is well designed to develop 4 different tecnhology nodes in parallel .

    Cons

To delivery mature technology to market on schedule or even ahead schedule, the job loading and stress is quite big for their engineers & managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To build one comfortable work environment without over emphasize personal performance.

I worked at TSMC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It's hard to find a job for a fresh graduated person with that salary like tsmc. You can talk to people not just you manager and colleagues, but also the vendors.

    Cons

Works in tsmc is just like works in other big company. Although a equipment engineer, especially junior level, is hardly to contact any political issue, but the rules fill into every corner in your life. Good and bad. If you would like to have job with more individuality, not here. People here are afraid of making mistake, so they try less than they wish.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use smart method to repair the equipment, invest engineer to course offered by vendors.
