I worked at TSMC as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great environment, great training, compensation is very competitive for Taiwan, there are a lot of perks from family day at amusement parks, concerts, discount at local stores, etc.

    Cons

Very long hours, tough to obtain great work life balance, very bureaucratic. Most people in the company have the mentality to just make significant amount of money in a short period of time and are willing to take on those long hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes long term satisfaction for employees may be a better strategy instead of trying to squeeze as much out of them in a short period of time.

    Pros

Execution, execution and execution; This company, except for the CEO, is excellent at almost everything it does as long as you do not ask them about "Strategy". There is only one strategist in this company. By the way, work-life balance is getting better

    Cons

Almost sucks on anything that is not foundry.

    Pros

Huge Company, big challenge of coordinating stuff, learning from doing. Salary is above normal.

    Cons

time wasting of negotiation between different section, doing none of little benefit work. Take too much time from your life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training is needed and there's always needed. There's too many self invented system that engineers would need to be trained to use. No signs or views for promotion because of too many employees like you are waiting.

Former Employee - Engineer in Hsinchu (Taiwan)

I worked at TSMC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Employees welfare is given great importance. Even at times of economic crisis employees were furloughed but not fired. Opportunity to do great work in some of the teams.

    Cons

Rigid job grade structure. Managers seemed to care more about time spent on job rather than quality of work. Did not seem to reward initiative from junior employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider a more flexible heirarchy to promote and nurture talent.
