I worked at TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

I worked in accounting department for two summers. People are actually working hard and responsibly in back office although outside has negative comment about TTC workers. I guess it's just different between operators and office staffs. My department is really nice they teach students each year to learn different role in AP/Treasury/Pension departments. Provided you are a willing to learn person, you can learn as much as you want. These experience will add value to your resume.

    Cons

Too little staff turnover or internal transfer, once people got a position they don't move. It's hard to get a job once intern is done.

I worked at TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent wages and benefits. Encourage self improvement and offer compensation for training and education.

    Cons

24/7 operation. Best suited for younger people.
My experience is you have to be in the click to progress.
    Constant change in senior management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to make significant changes regarding Union strangleholds. Don't be so fast in sacrificing staff to settle disputes. Senior staff needs to stop taking the easy way out and deal with the few true manipulators of the system. One step forward two steps back.

I have been working at TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) full-time

    Pros

There is a lot of work to do and the demand for service has not decreased since its inception.
Salaries are good. Layoffs are rare but do happen. The new CEO has emphasized the importance of customer service which helps focus direction. In my department there is a good training budget. Benefits are excellent.

    Cons

The leadership style of the past still exists and this really makes it difficult to work across departments. There are many silos of management but that is changing.

The direction from the politicians is harmful at time to the goals of the organization.

There is minimal merit pay (no bonuses).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in line with the new CEO. Consider changing old style leadership by bringing in new outside employees for jobs posted. Consider partnering more often rather than building everything in-house.

I have been working at TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

My co-workers were very intelligent and easy to get along with. They were dedicated to their jobs, and truly passionate about improving transit.

    Cons

Unfortunately, it feels as though the TTC is constantly embroiled in a political battle with the province and municipality. Be prepared for a company culture that is divided between union and staff members. There seems to be an underlying lack of inter-departmental cohesiveness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management does a great job given the resources at their disposal.
