Pros

As a self-financed federal agency, TVA represents the best of both worlds in many ways. Because TVA is not investor owned, it can take positions that are designed for long term results rather than immediate profit and share prices. That is not to say that the bottom line doesn't matter, as of course it does, but it is possible to establish a strategic plan and implement it without derailing the long term goals with every market fluctuation.

Being a government entity means that some business opportunities could be missed because of the enormous momentum of the agency.
