I have been working at Taconic Farms full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefit package is generous and varied to include a substantial 401K match, quality healthcare, tuition reimbursement, abundant paid time off. Flexible schedules are available in some positions. Good work life balance in many positions.
Compensation is competitive - but probably on the low end.

    Cons

Senior leadership is not based in the US.
This is not a particularly female friendly company with respect to pay, and advancement. People (especially women in the US) are frequently laid off
It is a very top heavy organization with large numbers of VPs that spend their time bickering among themselves.
Lack of accountability at the top. (see bickering above)
    lack of transparency

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior leadership should be US based and steps should be taken to develop female talent within the organization. Gender inequality should not still be an issue!

  2.

small company, great potential, too much politics, too much neoptism/favoritism, and too much micro management

    Pros

some good people, exciting projects, great benefits package,

    Cons

too much politics, too much micromanagement, too many incompetent people are kept around due to legacy relationships or ties to the founding family. High performers are getting pressured to do a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

the founding family/board needs to set the mandate for the management team and let them do their job and not get involved in micromanaging every decision. When the chairman of the board gets involved in deciding if/not a vending machine will be put up - then you know they are micromanaging the situation.

Favoritism, un-professional, under qualified coordinators. Manager was lacking knowledge.

I have been working at Taconic Farms full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, and working hours.

    Cons

Coordinators were never engaged in work areas. In order for advancement you need to belong to the circle. Manager would go out with her favorites to lunches, and talk bad about other employments. Hard working people never got recognized. If sick you have to pull your own weight and finish it up with no help. However if you belong to the circle then help was on its way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Coordinators need to be more engaged, and learn the workload as well. Please know how manage employees. Everyone is different, and no need to judge the person. At the end of the day its about the process, and not the employee. Family working there became a problem. Like the say blood is thicker than water. Overall it would be much more pleasant to work there if all the coordinators showed unity.

company had me working 7 days a week because they didnt want to hire anyone else for my area.
managment held me accountable for events that were out of my control which were mainly customer orders.
packing a large amount of orders on my own and getting them out by a certain time for delivery

    Pros

There are some very good people that work there. It is a good place to begin a career in animal based research.

    Cons

Very little to no room for upward mobility. Company is trying to drive labor costs to as close to zero as possible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Company that believes in promoting from within. There are some people that started out of high school and worked there most of their career.

    Cons

Do not be afraid to be outside of the box, but have a reason to be outside of the box.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

This job is great if you like a fast-paced environment and don't mind going through a sterilization process before, during and after work each day.

    Cons

Maximum care for animals, minimum care for employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push for better pay for employees and offer small incentives for loyalty and integrity.

I worked at Taconic Farms full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good starting pay, good health insurance and paid time off.

    Cons

Pay increases are a joke. You can only get a promotion if you know and are friends with the right people. Workloads are unreasonable, they say quality is the most important but keep increasing the quantity of work they expect you to do. Pay is very poor compare to the amount of responsibilities you have.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do your jobs, stop relying on poorly paid animal care technicians to take care of everything for you.
