    Pros

Would usually get a free garment, during a major line launch, about once a year. Decent discount and sales rewards.

    Cons

Ridiculous sales goals of anywhere from $125-$185/per hour to sell. I never felt good about the quality of the clothing, especially for the price.

    Advice to Management

Either lower prices or better quality of product. More variety in stores, to reflect what's available in the catalog and online.

    Pros

    friendly atmospher; nice employee discont

    Cons

not enough personal feedback;management is not aware of workload in other departments

    Advice to Management

management needs to be aware of the workload thier superviors have and they need to be recognized for the work they do in order to keep the floor running smoothly. management needs to do monthly temperature checks with the supervisoer to see how things are going and what is needed to make their job easier and less stressful.

    Pros

I don't work there anymore. Some true friendships to last a lifetime. A great story and brand that has potential

    Cons

Fake phony upper management, lots of kool aid drinking to fit in and keep your status.... Forcing people to fit into cult mode to convince themselves and the competition that they are relevant

    Advice to Management

Scratch this indoctrination of staff. Go back to hiring Talbots like associates and upper management... Take a real look at turnover and find out why good people left and lazy fake people came on board

    Pros

first look at new merchandise. Good discount

    Cons

not enough help. Too many MAJOR visual changes at the last minute. No communication from the top down

    Advice to Management

Work in partnership with stores. Do not treat help as if they do not have any knowledge of the operation. Share the overall business plan

    Pros

Get to work with nice, professional associates and clients. Clothing discount is nice too. Very appealing and clean work environment.

    Cons

Salaries are much too low for sales expertise and service given to clients. Retailers should pay sales staff who work directly with consumer so much more.

    Advice to Management

Provide a more positive environment. Associates will be more motivated. Use consistent schedules rather than constantly changing them.

    Pros

I went to work at Talbots when I was laid off from my corporate job. I figured I could make money, meet career-minded people, and possibly even learn some new skills. It was a pretty relaxed, low-pressure environment, mainly due to our great, laid-back managers.

    Cons

It's always hard to work for a company that's not doing well, and especially when they're going through a personality crisis. Talbots was trying to move to a younger, hipper audience and it just wasn't going well. The tried and true customers were disappointed in the ill-fitting, cheaper merchandise, and the new customers....well, they were few and far between, because it's hard to change your image as an older woman's store.

    Advice to Management

You can't understaff your way to success. Overworked employees will eventually find another way to make money. The "try on-athons" we used to have were great! So much easier to sell clothes you're familiar with the fit of!

    Pros

Great team but you must meet your sales incentives or you will get written up. Great environment, great customers and fun working experience.

    Cons

Working holidays and week-ends but that is what life in retail is all about.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

The staff was very supportive of each other. When an employee met their goals, they would ring additional sales under another employee to help them meet their goal.

    Cons

Very high pressure to meet sales goals.

    Advice to Management

Employees constantly feel as though they are on the verge of losing their jobs over their goals. This creates stress among their employees and brings down morale. For the amount of pay, it isn't worth it.
