    Pros

I have worked other places but this was the best retail job ever. The people are amazing and management really cares about you and the store.

    Cons

Work holidays but that's retail. There are some bad apples but those people tend to quit fast because they can't succeed.

I have been working at Talbots

    Pros

Staff Some of the clothing Location Clean store events

    Cons

Client Specialist Program. You are asked to do more ie. reach out to customers via notes, email, phone calls, special appointments, client book, yet there is NOT raise in pay. Instead, you can accumulate points that you can then redeem on a special website for items like trips, household items, music/dvds, etc. Nice thought, but those are things I do not NEED. I would rather get a raise for doing Full-time work on part-time hours. Also, a lot of pressure to sign up customers for the store credit card. That is the bottom line and it makes being there too stressful for a low-paying part-time job.

    Cons

Upper management does not care about employees.

    Pros

Decent benefits, though nothing out of the ordinary - health, dental, eye, HSA, 401(k); Generous personal/sick time for new employees; Opportunity to telecommute as needed.

    Cons

No work/life balance; Severe growing pains; Low salary for long hours ($48k for 60+ hours per week, easily!); Lack of leadership/management training for supervisors; Lots of new employees and no formal training program, so lack of knowledge all around.

    Advice to Management

Help your Merchants be better managers - these women may have incredible buying skills/experience, but they're terrible managers. They lack leadership skills, people skills, and patience.

    Pros

People. Inspiring/educated Senior Leadership. Visibility. Managing in the gray. Ability to be creative. Bonus structure. Reward program for associates.

    Cons

    Retail life...It's demanding but rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Must like to lead and manage in the gray. You own the business unit- able to create the team and structure you want in the building. Must be able to read P&L and be profitable through sell cost

    Pros

If you love helping others create a personalized wardrobe - then you will love working at Talbots!

    Cons

If you are younger, there are still tons of cute clothes for you to use your employee discount on...but your clients will most likely be that of an older generation which can sometimes be a little hard to please as far opinions on what is fashionable, classic, and truly looks great on the customer.

    Advice to Management

I would target individuals that are a little older to actually work with the customers since the target customers are age 35 and above.

    Pros

Would usually get a free garment, during a major line launch, about once a year. Decent discount and sales rewards.

    Cons

Ridiculous sales goals of anywhere from $125-$185/per hour to sell. I never felt good about the quality of the clothing, especially for the price.

    Advice to Management

Either lower prices or better quality of product. More variety in stores, to reflect what's available in the catalog and online.
