Compared to other retail establishments I have worked at, they are pretty relaxed.

    Cons

Management REALLY stresses making a sale

    Advice to Management

Don't stress out the employees by making them think it is their fault if you don't make a sale

    Pros

Definitely the customers, building relationships. Nice working in climate control and being nicely dressed and smelling good every day!

    Cons

Poor/almost no leadership from store manager and DM. Leadership would not address serious issues, but allowed pettiness to take place. Favoritism abounded. No recognition for those who were top performers and extremely hard workers. No training, only flippant/random "coaching". Lengthy wasteful time spent on "conference calls" several times a week. When asked about training, was told "you just learn as you go". Extremely high turnover. Don't expect full-time unless you get assistant manager, then you will carry that load plus store manager's job! Be prepared to do a lot of "filling in", so no life except that of Talbots! And forget about being considered for career advancement unless you kiss up!

    Advice to Management

Look into what your hard working employees are doing, and see what the store managers are really up to, or could it be you only care about making your goal for the "month" so you get your bonus too?

    Pros

Associates are great to work with and work in tandem to effectively collaborate with sales.

    Cons

Associates are severely underpaid for the amount that they are asked to do. Besides sales associate duties, associates are asked to take out trash, clean the restrooms, etc.

    Advice to Management

Give periodic raises to employees when they are exceeding company and job expectations.

    Pros

I had a good team to work with me. The clients were fun to help and would jump in on our shenanigans from time to time. merchandizing and training were always a priority. Great discount!

    Cons

Productivity program. It is fine to set expectations but to keep changing on what was expected and then terming employees for not achieving them was not fair. The expectations changed three different times in a two year time frame and then there was always exception months. Not a clear program. Payroll restraints was another issue as in any business but running a two door store on the weekend on 2-2-2 coverage is impossible if you are expecting the high standards of Customer service at Talbot's. You can't be the greeter,Runner, fashion stylist, cashier, stock person and give each and every customer the attention they need or deserve on this kind of man power.

    Advice to Management

Upper management I know has set new program in 2014 place for payroll and scheduling.
