I have been working at TalkingRain Beverage full-time

    Pros

I work at TalkingRain because I have the ability to make such an impact on so many things inside and outside my department- and I love that! I view this as something literally everyone has the opportunity to do if they want to step up to the plate. The Company culture is something amazing too! For the most part, people actually like spending time together and truly seem to care.

    Cons

TR is the fastest growing beverage company in the nation—I am proud to be a part of that. With growth, comes growing pains. As long as we are looking forward and working towards the same goal, I can deal with them.

I worked at TalkingRain Beverage full-time

    Pros

The overall culture at TalkingRain was fantastic. Although HR was clearly adjusting to a rapidly-growing employee base, they seemed to be doing their best to stay on top of things. Medical/dental/vision benefits are great, fairly flexible work schedule for salaried employees, and they have a ton of fun events (5k fun runs at work, rewards for maintain an active/fit lifestyle, lot of food/lunches). Located on the Preston-Snoqualmie Trail, it's great for getting some exercise after work; also short drives to the ski areas - great during winter and summer. If you want a job where you get to do your job, plus a little bit of everything else, this is the place - it's an internationally distributed/recognized brand that still has very local roots. C-suite employees make regular rounds through the office and make a point of knowing peoples names/having conversations with them; same with most of the rest of the leadership team.

    Cons

There are only a few bad apples at the company, but those can make all the difference in employee retention. Pay is certainly not the best in the industry...and using the reason that the location is Preston isn't valid when you're pulling your employee base from outside the local area. The commute is a long one - although a reverse one for many people. No degree or continuing education reimbursement or incentives.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees...you have a great culture and a great company. Bump up your employee salaries a little and offer education/learning incentives. Have employees do anonymous evaluations of managers - not just their own (too easy to identify who wrote comments) but all in their area.

I worked at TalkingRain Beverage full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As with any company that is rapidly growing everyone gets to experience contributing in multiple departments and getting to wear 3 to 5 hats in their role. The HR department really strives to improve moral and boosting employees confidence by showing them they appreciate their hard work with gift card, letters of appreciation and special dinners/outings. Many opportunities for advancement since the company is growing so rapidly.

    Cons

You will be overworked and expected to perform beyond your main job responsibilities. Be prepared to work late and put in the extra hours when necessary. No work/life balance for employees in many departments. Their compensation is below industry standards so negotiate for your salary to be higher from the beginning.

I worked at TalkingRain Beverage full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very few. Some great people to work with, but environment is bad.

    Cons

Clueless leadership and lack of any direction or vision. Pay is below market despite having to drive way out of town to Preston. General lack of concern for employee well being and Exec team only seams to be concerned about themselves and their bonus. Started working during recession as I needed a job, once I hit the 3 year anniversary mark I found a better position and much better pay elsewhere without much effort.

    Advice to Management

You are not geniuses, you got lucky when the ICE product took off. Pull your head out of you-know-where and learn how to manage a real company.

I worked at TalkingRain Beverage (More than a year)

    Pros

Free beverage Some really good people

    Cons

Lack of Leadership Hidden agendas Key positions managed by under qualified individuals Pay Benefits

    Advice to Management

Hire people qualified for the position. No other successfully managed company would hire people with no college education and proper experience to manage key groups. Need more diverse product line.

I have been working at TalkingRain Beverage full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lack of oversight or clear objectives means that most employees can get away with minimal work without repercussions.

    Cons

The HR department is very powerful, incompetent and at times openly hostile to employees. They get a bonus for keeping salaries down so the running joke is that everyone is at about 70% of market rates. With the improving job market, many employees are looking to leave, which is good as the owners are in the process of selling the company anyway. Don't look here for long term employment, the offices will likely be closed end of 2014.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your glass towers and actually listen to employees instead of being autocratic.

I worked at TalkingRain Beverage part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Plenty of Sparkling Ice or water to drink during long days. If you like carbonated beverages you'll love that - Management will motivate you to work hard. - Nobody there takes their job lightly so you don't find many "slackers". - As long as you work hard your supervisors will trust you which makes the environment much easier.

    Cons

    - Long days in summer heat can drain your energy. - Not much positive reinforcement. Only an issue if you need constant praise. - Hectic driving schedules can be stressful.

    Advice to Management

Give employees 10 minute breaks every few hours since that is technically state law. It would tremendously improve moral during those long weekends.
