    Pros

Great place for someone who loves challenging tasks in dynamic environment. Excellent VPN coupled with high performance Dell laptop enables you to work anywhere and anytime. They paid 100% of medical insurance. They had the end of year bonus as well as instance reward. Family like environment where everyone is helping each other. Wonderful year end party at a top hotel with unlimited drinks until 2:00am and a quest room, and so on.

    Cons

They use their own proprietary kernel for software development which can kill your skill slowly over the time.

I have been working at Tapestry Solutions

    Pros

The company has always postured itself to take advantage of growth and unique opportunities. The opportunity employees have to showcase their skills and potential is limitless, assuming they understand and take advantage of the role they play. For employees who go above and beyond, they are essentially self-managers who are not micromanaged. Tapestry has done a better job of screening new-hires, despite times when demand to fill positions was high. Overall, it is a great place to work if you know how to effectively contribute without any guidance.

    Cons

To truly enjoy the working environment, you must me self-motivated and willing to embrace uncertainty. The only constant is change, and it is commonplace in Tapestry. There was a time when mentorship was abundant for new-hires, but many of the veteran employees have moved on as the culture of the company changed over the years. The biggest frustration is the lack of a recognized career path for younger/mid-level employees. Unless you are a real stand-out employee who makes it clear that upward mobility is your objective, then you will not be asked what path you prefer. Promotion comes by surprise or turnover. As others have posted, there are many managers who come straight from the uniform into a leadership position. This isn't entirely bad, but there ends up being a very rigid, military style of management that comes with it in most cases. There are some amazingly talented people in Tapestry that understand what it takes to properly support the customer and positively change the organization. But, when they leave or become overburdened, I fear a lot of cards will fall.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While contracting always has unpredictability, there must be an internal program of sorts that allows aspiring employees to participate in the 'business of the business'. A resume of education and field work is great, if you only aspire to be an educated field worker... If the next generation of leadership isn't groomed to lead, the positive culture of the organization will vanish very quickly.

    Pros

Pay was good for position and within the industry. Co-workers always willing to lend a hand.

    Cons

No career progression. No training or path for future within the company. Seems to be that corporate sets you up to stagnate at your current position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training, training, training. Do not put someone in a postion unless you have a plan to help them succeed.

    Pros

There are a lot of new opportunities for success at Tapestry. Project work, long term careers, part time for college students and international jobs as well. Free sodas and snacks keeps morale as well as productivity healthy.

    Cons

Merging cultures from distinct business units across geographical boundaries has been challenging.

Tapestry is an amazing company that is having a hard time growing up

    Pros

The people at Tapestry are great, hard working and very talented. Their work is important and provides a great benefit to their military customers. The company does genuinely care about its employees and the medical coverage is top notch.

    Cons

The biggest challenge Tapestry faces is not a tough economy or a lack of capable employees, but it is a lack of vision, communication and the ability to organize and delegate decision making authority. Tapestry needs to realize that it is no longer a small company and if it wants to succeed it must mature in all aspects.

The company leadership is a fairly homogenous group of retired military colonels. While almost all employees have great respect for them as individuals and for their accomplishments while in service, they were not hired for their experience running a business. There seems to be about a two year learning curve and this is a problem because the company needs smart business decisions made now. Additionally, while most are "type A" personalities there seems to be overwhelming group-think and the old "road to Abilene" paradox reigns on a regular basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the company can learn to diversify its leadership and embrace life as a large company, it will grow and do great things. If, however, the current leadership continue operating as if they were still a small company and focus on working harder and not smarter they will only succeed in bleeding the company’s talented workforce away. As a note for potential employees, you won't regret working at Tapestry, but you may get burned out in a few years if it continues on the current course.

I have been working at Tapestry Solutions

    Pros

Tapestry pays for the medical/vision and ental plan. The only cost to the employee is the copay when visiting a doctor. Even thought Tapestry solutions is growing at a fast pace is still retains the small company feeling and friendly atmosphere. There are positions all over the world for Field Support Engineers or Military Analyst to choose from. The human Resources department will always bend over backwards to suuport all the Fieild support Engineer's and Military Analyst out on the field.

    Cons

There is hardly any upward mobility in Tapestry Solutions. There seems to be an opinion from many FSE's/MA's that someone must have experience in the military as an officer to be qualify for a Senior Manager/Leader. There is no scheduled crosstraining between products. This would allow for FSE's/MA's to support Tapestry a lot better and its customers. There is no management training or anything the employee can use to improve within a current position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Yorktown should follow the same rules as San Diego. The same friendly environment from San Diego should be felt in Yorktown.
