I worked at Target full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Salary, Discount, Benefits, great work environment, potential for advancement

    Cons

Some leaders are more interested in promoting themselves than the hourly employees who are the individuals truly responsible for success.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is built upon the backs of the store team, never forget that they can make or break you.

I worked at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great People Focused environment. Great management training program for new college grads. Great of leadership skills to build off of in the future

    Cons

Due to Targets lack of innovation, they have not been able to keep up with the market. They are getting bypassed by the likes of Walmart and Amazon. therefore career growth is pretty much non existent.

I have been working at Target part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working with some good people to achieve a common goal. Target team member discount.

    Cons

Relying on other team members availability to work, and taking requested time off will place your return weekly schedule upside down. Long drive to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay could be better, and not partially based on merchandise sales.

    Pros

Fast, Fun and Friendly work atmosphere
    Very Team focused
    Supportive learning environment
    Fast paced environment
Working for a company that serves the communities they operate in

    Cons

    50-60 hour work weeks
    Demanding retail schedule
Upper level management passing the buck
No bonus unless the store scores green in most every department ( therefore the bonus is doubtful)
Can be paid the same amount of money as someone who works in the distribution center first and transfers. Work at the DC!

I have been working at Target

    Pros

Target's compensation and benefits are great. Most of the leadership is very respectful and friendly. It is a great career path for anyone fresh out of college if you can get straight into a salaried ETL position.

    Cons

It does take time to get acclimated to the culture and high expectations, and it can quickly consume all of your time if you are in a new or difficult role. It is nearly impossible for anyone with out a four year degree to advance in the company, which has a negative affect on morale at the hourly level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline the reporting and information to stores. For ETLs, excessive time is spent looking for the right information and working on administrative functions which may not all be value-added. Developmental tools and recognition programs at Target are wonderful, but they are tedious and time-consuming.

    I worked at Target

    Pros

Overall, a very friendly work environment. There is a mutual respect among every level of employee. Schedules are posted on time, Upper management is professional and fair to deal with, requests for family time off are respected as well as they can be for a busy retail environment. I only worked this position during the busy season. It can be intense, stressful and demanding at times. I think it would be pretty even during the regular year. The pay is above average compared with other retail settings.

    Cons

The only thing I was not happy with was the lack of scheduling concern during the Christmas season. Target requires every employee to have a minimum of 8 hours between shifts. So, if you are scheduled till 11PM, and plan on being out of work by midnight. The work load (restocking/organizing areas that have been destroyed by Christmas shoppers could keep you at work as late as 3 am. If you were scheduled to work the next day at 9am, you must now start your shift at 12 the next day. Now any personal plans you would have had that evening are now pushed back due to the scheduling. I'm sure it's just at that period of year but it can be challenging to balance work/personal schedules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer opportunity for overtime pay if someone is required to work later than scheduled. If not this can lead to decreased employee moral and a possible expense of loosing that employee and having to train someone new.
