I worked at Target part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very organized, friendly leadership. The leadership program is the greatest I've ever seen. You sit down to be coached every week, and you get to choose your mentor.

    Cons

A lot of politics go into play when dealing with team members and management.

I have been working at Target part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Target's company values and emphasis on inclusion are a breath of fresh air compared to other companies who treat workers like numbers and refuse to deal with the fact that humans are unpredictable.

    Cons

If only they paid us like we're humans who need a livable wage. Plus, some people take advantage of the system and should not still have jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe take some of the money for free food and convert it into decent wages. Or make it easier for lower management to fire problem workers.

I worked at Target part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good stepping stone for first job. they hire a lot of young people especially in the summer months. They give good hours (sometimes too much) However, subs are easy to find if you can't make a shift. Usually they will respect your schedule requests and find a way to make it work. Easy to work technology, organized, responsive workplace.

    Cons

They switch you all over the floor whenever they feel like it. You could be hired as a cashier and end up doing back stock instead. Management really doesn't care, they treat everyone like 3rd class morons. Or maybe because I'm a college student I think that.
On another note, you deal with the public A LOT and sometimes they are NOT friendly. you can ask you supervisor to take care of it, but they hardly ever do.

I have been working at Target part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Team was very nice and working together is a big part of getting the job done. The part time early hours suited me as a student.

    Cons

They started to lose staff so they really started cracking down on us to get things done by a certain time even though there were less people.

I have been working at Target full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Rapidly changing workload. No two days are the same. Has decent benefits package for team leaders and up. Vacation and personal time accumulate at nice rate.

    Cons

Workload can be heavy with very few team members to delegate it to . Upper management sometimes has unrealistic expectations of how the store should look. The company rarely promotes experianced leaders internally as they perfer fresh college grads. Constant fear of your position being eliminated to cut payroll.

I worked at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great learning opportunity
Good stepping stone to other opportunities

    Cons

    Work/Life Balance
    Daily responsibilities
    A lot of turnover
Most store General Managers do barely anything

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest and upfront about future advancement opportunities. Do not dangle the thought of being a store team leader in front of everyone but only select very few people to interview for the position.

I worked at Target part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friendly, safe, and clean work environment

    Cons

Store Management and HR can seem disconnected from entry-level positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please spend more time familiarizing yourselves with the everyday tasks that your employees go through. Spend less time trying to impress District and higher management with your delegation skills and more time improving genuine customer service and retail knowledge.

Former Employee - Human Resources Manager in Columbus, OH

I worked at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Get great management experience fresh out of college.
If in HR this is one company where you can be an HR manager directly after undergrad.
Put in 2 years and then leave to have a decent resume and you will find something better.

    Cons

Work is 60+ hours per week
Give your valuable team members and team leaders dismal raises and then question why turnover is so high
This company has the same philosophy as Walmart but sadly invests less in their management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not group stores in terms of volume buckets to determine how many TLs and ETLs per store, this should be done on a sliding scale.
ETLs have high turnover because there is nothing accurate about the job in the recruiting process.
