I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I liked working at Target. People are very nice and it is a very fast pace environment.

    Cons

Long hours, decent pay. Typical job. Not too hard and not to easy. Wasn't challenged enough. Did same things every day.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to developing skills of team members. I didn't feel like I learned much being on the floor. Quit because I felt like I wasn't learning.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and some great people. Pay was really good for requiring nothing more than a high school diploma. Some unique schedule options and overtime opportunities at certain points in the year.

    Cons

Little to none promoting from within and everything comes with a very top down approach. This leads to many senseless decisions being made by individuals not actively apart of what they are deciding on. Additionally, to have doubts or question the ideas of another is to 'be negative.' This leads to a culture of basically throw things at a problem time and time again until something sticks..... very frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone is in a position below does not automatically make your ideas better than theirs. Listen to and support those around you.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

nice people to work with, i liked working in electronics. I played music on the stereos during my shifts. no one seemed to care.

    Cons

Working for long hours was a pain sometimes. Since they're open pretty late closing shifts were not something to look forward to.

    Advice to Management

Be more available on the sales floor. I would spend a lot of time by myself in electronics and it would get very boring, especially when the business was slow late in the evening.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are pretty laid back and friendly

    Cons

It's retail, hours wax and wane, annual pay raises are a joke

    Advice to Management

Tie hourly wages to performance, you'd definitely attract better employees

I worked at Target full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Brand, brand, brand, except in Canada.

    Cons

Everything. Target is a clean version Wal-mart. It does not follow through with promises, starts cashiers 5 cents more than minimum wage, so that they can say they pay more than minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Senior team lead position is making a non salaried team member do things for which they are not trained. Also expecting a person with a degree to shoot for a job in retail is ridiculous. The intern program gives kids straight out of college keys to the store with no retail experience, yet people who have worked hard for the company for years are rarely rewarded, especially since they stopped tuition reimbursement.
