Pros
Get a dollar bonus for working overnight
Cons
No communication, ETl's are just horrible over night
Advice to Senior Management
You should at least care about the people the work there the longest
Pros
Relatively easy to get hired without having to have education or some special skills. You work under a roof so the job is relatively clean and safe.
Cons
Low compensation, most people are working part-time without good benefits, high turnover rate, schedule changes from week to week, you are treated as though you are some disposable trash (and if you are a floor associate at Target, you are!)
Advice to Senior Management
I know you get a lot of applicants in this horribly performing, trashy economy, but try to reduce the turnover rate and hire people long term (even floor associates!). Also, give them good benefits (even part-timers), will you?
Pros
It is challenging and time passes quickly.
Decent benefits
Cons
Hard work not compensated/recognized.
No one held responsible.
Hours get slashed in January many loose benefits due to lack of average hours.
Reviews are not fair all the time.
Have to have a degree to advance. No promotion from within.
Advice to Senior Management
Follow up with team members daily to see what isn't working and why?
The reports just look good. Dig deep with a plan to resolve issues.
Find people who have a good attitude and like to work and be willing to pay them.
Pros
Get to work with some incredibly talented people. You also have the opportunity to work a variety of assignments because leadership expects team members to find new positions every 18-24 months.
Cons
Target has a strong culture and in order to be seen as a leader you must conform. Also depending on what pyramid you work in you may not be fully valued if you are a subject matter expert.
Advice to Senior Management
Take time to appreciate diversity, not all leaders act the same or all speak the same. Diversity in leadership may actually be good.
Pros
They can be very flexible and it's a pretty easy job to do
Cons
Your expected to meet a certain quota of RedCard applications. If you get above expected, good for you. you *might* win a 'Target Dog' (Stuffed dog). BUT DONT LET THEM NOTICE YOUR NUMBERS SLIPPING. You will be constantly, and I mean multiple times a shift, reminded that you need to get those numbers up. At my location I was threatened with my job.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more time trying to understand that we cannot force RedCards on people, and more time trying to help us be better sales people, and some actual incentives would be nice.
Pros
Active pace, mostly flexible scheduling, recognition, respectful
Cons
They'll show you respect, appreciation and load on the praise but don't expect that to translate to compensation. When it comes to reviews, raises or promotions no one is ever quite good enough. They are, however, fond of hiring recent grads.
Advice to Senior Management
Reward your employees with actual pay raises. An occasional free sandwich is no substitute for a paycheck. It's insulting.
Pros
The managers were very flexible on scheduling so you were able to get off the days you asked off, most of the time.
Cons
Some of the work can become repetitive therefore it becomes boring. Not much room for advancement or promotions. Getting a raise takes a year.
Advice to Senior Management
help with some of the tasks instead of just telling us to do it all while you sit/stand and watch us the whole time criticizing.
Pros
As a seasonal job, it is okay.
Cons
Very poor training. Expectations are not clearly outlined. Some of the managers are overly aggressive in pushing Target credit applications.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not put someone on a register without allowing them to at least read the entire cashier training booklet. Tell new employees what performance measures are in place (i.e.---speed score and use of the suspend key)
Pros
Target was great at scheduling around other commitments. If you were a student, had a second job, or took long leaves of absence, Target respected each and any commitment.
Cons
The salary received didn't reflect the difficulty of the job. Management was bias and hypocritical, being, overall, an extremely poor example for the rest of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Overall wage should be raised, based on the difficulty of the job. Management should set a better example for the team members by actually doing their jobs.
Pros
Really flexible hours since there are more than enough employees to cover gaps in hours. Fairly decent (but not the best) pay. Nice being able to clock in, do your job, and clock out without really having to talk to management if you don't want to. No cash handling skills necessary - drawers are not counted for, cash pulls don't exist, jumping between registers is fine.
Cons
Worked there for four years. No room for advancement within company. Management has no idea what they're doing. Most of them are people who do the intern program thing during college who have never worked a day in their life and all of the sudden are managers. Awful.
Advice to Senior Management
Make them work all the positions on the floor first before telling other people what to do. Having a snooty boss who doesn't even know how to turn off a popcorn popper makes absolutely no sense.
