Pros
I like the feedback we get when we do something right. Also the way we work as a team. And the Fast Fun and Friendly attitude.
Cons
I could actually say when I felt there were cons it was when I started the store was a mess.
Pros
the pay is pretty decent, but you literally have to bend over backwards and jump through hoops to even be noticed. very fast paced retail environment and I like helping people. but at the end of the day its not really even worth my time and energy.
Cons
Poor management and leadership in the company, full of bullshitters and people who dont accept responsibility for their actions. they like to point the finger and pawn it off on you, the one who does all the dirty work and slaves for them while they sit and have coffee and 2 hours lunches....
Pros
Target retail environment was fast paced and the team members were the hardest working people in the company. Having the opportunity to lead 250 to 350 people developed leadership skills. The training was very good as well.
Cons
Management had a good ole boy culture. Many times comments were made about employees that were not true but Executives and Store Team Leaders took it for face value. Many executives, team leaders and employees were fired for ridiculous reasons.
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage your Store Team Leaders to spend time with new executives, and team leaders. Build a repor that they can get to know you and you get to know them. Increase compensation for the level of experience that a person has.
Pros
Flexible hours
Good Training
Feedback
Learn a lot about new products
Work with a diverse and (typically)friendly team
Allows time off for school
Good experience for customer service
Cons
No concern whatsoever for employee retention at the lower ends: Target prefers to keep hiring new employees even when hours are cut, discouraging those who actually know how to do their job from staying
Management is usually fresh out of college with very little experience in retail which leads to impossible expectations, favoritism, and a lack of understanding how a store works
Favoritism. Recognition to often goes to those who talk the most rather than those who walk the most.
Target overlooks TLs who have been pulling the majority of the store for years in favor of hiring fresh college grads who are somehow thought to be more qualified because they paid for an education rather than working.
Target has great equipment and very logistics, but too often there simply isn't enough equipment for everyone to get their job done.
Recognition is a term used a lot to make employees feel good but has no backing. Employees need real raises, promotions, discounts as recognition, not gold stars. We're not third-graders, even if management thinks we are just because they have a degree.
All the way through the store from the lowest to highest positions target gives far more work than is usually possible to complete. Instead of giving a reasonable amount that can be accomplished it's preferable to have tasks overlap until it's difficult to keep track of what should be done next. Sallary positions are even worse since you can work 50-60 hours which works out to pretty miserable pay for a college grad.
Advice to Senior Management
There's a lot of good ideas behind Target, focus on customer service is great, and product selection, presentation, and pricing are very good. What needs attention are the employees. If you want to build a wildly successful company you need dedicated individuals at the bottom to make things skyrocket: just look at the huge successes of the last decade like Whole Foods, Trader Joe, and IKEA. Focus less on silly new policies and marketing ideas and more on retaining the great employees you have before they leave for companies that actually care. In my opinion the best way to accomplish this would be through more meaningful recognition, promotion from within, and greater attention to retention instead of recruiting.
Pros

Cons
people always callout,
managers dont care about your needs
full time employees get aveg 21 hrs week
pays raises are a joke!!!!
Pros

Cons

Advice to Senior Management
Give a very good talent memebers the opportunity of grow up on the company. Bring the opportunity of amployees with good leadership. master degree the opportunitie of enjoy your business college and grow up until be executive.
Pros
The people are very profesional
Cons
the hours can be long
Pros
The 10% Team Member discount.
Some opportunities for advancement.
Flexible scheduling
Cons
Little communication between management and team members
Advancement opportunities aren't always given to the most qualified people.
No possible for a team member be a LOD or Executive Team leader.
Many Executive Team Leads I've worked with are fresh out of college, and come out of training with very little practical know how.
Not enough hours for team members.
Do not provide enough resources and payroll for store teams, creates a high stress environment
Advice to Senior Management
Cutting corners by not hiring enough people to properly and effectively run a store is both unfair to guests and to overworked employees.
Difficult for employees live up to the company's expectations of Fast, Fun & Friendly service when they're overworked and unappreciated.
Will be great if the Executives do our Job for a day, then, they will see how easy or hard it's our Job.
Pros
Target was a great place to work when I started as a team member in the softlines department. I was paid just above minimum wage to start. Although the pay wasn't great it was ok due to the fact I was only part time because I was still in school. Over the years I expected to advance with the company. At first I really enjoyed my job and was very happily employed. The management was very accommodating to my school schedule, flexible to my requests for time off and generally seemed to appreciate my hard work. The benefits were good, better than some other similar retailers. Career advancement seemed to be a focus and often I witnessed others moving up. After working for less than two years, I was promoted to Team Leader in softlines. I though it was great because I truly wanted to make a career with Target however now I realize this is as far as I will ever get.
Cons
When I was promoted to Team Leader my salary increased by $3. Quite pitiful to get $3 for all the added stress and responsibility in becoming a team leader but still I looked to the long term goal of advancing my career and hoped it would pay off in the long run. After six years working for Target, my annual increases have all been quite honestly a slap in the face. I have received multiple "excellent" reviews which got me increases of less than 50 cents. I hated to complain so I just took what I was offered and tried to console myself that at least they considered me to be "excellent" even if I didn't get an "excellent" raise of which I deserved. After six years of this I am now at my wits end. Its not just the low salary, that I could deal with but the lack of advancement is the nail in the coffin. After being considered on all recent reviews as "excellent" and advised by my ETL that I would be a great person to promote who obviously is ready to take on more, this eludes me simply due to the fact I do not have a college degree. This is something so single in its importance to your career at Target that unless you have one, you shouldn't even consider working there. If you have a degree, no matter what is is in or from where you are good and if you don't, no amount of hard work will make up for it. I have never seen a company so blind to the quality of the team members they currently employ and so singly focused on promoting those who have degrees only. What about those who are overqualified in every other way except in degree? Team members such as myself without the coveted college degree are totally ignored by upper management. Although my ETL and even STL has in the past made many comments about by commitment to the company and my job and great performance I have been told multiple times that I am not a candidate for the executive in training or EIT position due to my lack of required schooling. I feel that Target is slamming the door on what could be its best employees, those who work their way up from the bottom, the ones who know they have to work harder than everybody else who does have degrees. Those without degrees are treated as second class workers, slave labor almost; we may be great workers but just not good enough to be considered for anything more than Team Leader and if you work for Target you should accept this fact before you start, you will never be promoted to anything above Team Leader without a degree.
Advice to Senior Management
Value, reward and, promote your team members based on all aspects equally. Just because you lack a college degree doesn't mean you can't do the job. Realize that work performance should at least be taken into the equation when advancing team members to further positions. Be more engaging with your team, try to know the basics (like at least all of our names, and yes I am serious after 6 years with Target some of my managers do not properly speak my name). Reward your team for their hard work, not just by annual increases I mean an honest "Thank You" goes a long way. Train your team well, training should not be an afterthought especially in a company so numbers driven as Target. If your team members and especially team leaders don't know how to read a report it isn't exactly fair for you to grade us upon it. And most of all, realize that the future of Target lies within those who work for you, not those that you work for. If management could understand that it would be a much more respectful place to work.
Pros
great hours and I loved how nice and friendly the customers were every day was refreshing and store was always kept nice and clean. The whole staff was also friendly and nice
Cons
the only problem i had with target was that the pay was very low 7.50 starting clearly not enough for all the work you put in especially the cashiers
Advice to Senior Management
my only advice to leadership is to up the pay especially the cashiers because they work really really hard doing their job
