Pros
having Target to put on your resume is a plus. It also is a great job out of college and for entering into the business world.
Cons
Poor performance does not seem to be handled well. Target does not really fire people, even if they are not doing the job.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to your team! I know you all are always running off to meetings or travelling, but a lot goes unnoticed, and is hurting the bottom line, by not being more involved.
Pros
great benefits, fun people to work with.
Cons
the pay isn't the best
Advice to Senior Management
Great job!
Pros
Target has a strong commitment to its guests, communities, employees, and shareholders. They recognize the importance in investing in their employees' talent.
Cons
It is a large corportation where information and structure can be difficult to spread across the company. Very faced paced environment if you are not that type of person.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to promote constant feedback, work hard to recognize talent. Always look internally first when promoting. Keep up the great work.
Pros
Mostly everyone was under 35. A lot of roles and functions performed under the same roof and easy to switch tracks among divisions.
Cons
Plenty of room to slack off and get bored. Sometimes coddled and knowledge withheld so as not to overwhelm interns when it's actually required which can be frustrating
Pros
A young and active Company Culture
Work-Life Balance
Defined Career Path
Concern for Personal Development
Cons
Overly positive attitude can come across as fake
Employees do not network enough outside of the company
Advice to Senior Management
Need to do a better job of retaining the top talent from their internship program. Many use the internship as a resume builder only to skip to higher paying full-time jobs
Pros
Target Discount!
Team members are very friendly
They will work with you on hours
Overall people are very cheerful
Generous with time-off
Cons
I work at Target in MN, the HQ state. Target is very important in MN, and most stores are really on their game. Being that Target is so important, I was shocked by there starting salary which is worst then Wal-Mart. The micro-managing is ridiculous! They are way to serious, we are not kids and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do simple task. Upper management are cocky and full of themselves.
Target is great if you work for Corporate, otherwise it's best as a seasonal job.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to the little people!
Pros
People, Culture, Benefits, Challenging Work, Support from other departments
Cons
Culture can be stifling, managers are not checked so a bad one can ruin your time
Pros
Extremely flexible, I can pretty much make my own schedule. I have a large availability but they accommodated me when I have other stuff going on. And I love my coworkers they are always willing to lend a hand.
Cons
If you are looking for a raise good luck. I have only worked my way up by putting a lot of time and effort into my work and what I'm up to is toilet paper. In 4 years I haven't even had a dollars worth of raises.
Advice to Senior Management
Management is good. It is corporate that needs to adjust. Inflation and gas prices are killing me and I'm not getting the raises I feel I deserve. I'm in the higher end with a 24¢ raise this past year. I heard some got as little as 7¢. I no longer wonder why the turnover rate from year to year is what it is. Pay your team members who work their butts off what they deserve or they will keep taking their work ethic else where.
Pros
Target is a great place to start a career. The company culture is supportive and because Target has so many resources the training is fantastic. It's a relatively safe environment to transition into the business world and learn about yourself. The people at Target are the best thing about the company and there are many ways to get involved with the Target community socially outside of work. I will keep many of the connections I made there for the rest of my career.
Cons
While the team-based culture is great for feeling connected and positive about your day-to-day, it creates a difficult environment for making effective business decisions. Politics seem to play a bigger part in key decisions than they should. There isn't that much autonomy as everything needs to be signed off on by 5 or 6 people and the result is generally a watered-down execution of a good idea.
Advice to Senior Management
Raise your hiring bar, fire people more easily, and give those that you retain more autonomy. People are such a huge part of the culture that it's surprising they aren't more empowered by management. I think part of the reason is that there are many people who, although they are nice and pleasant to work with, really shouldn't be there anymore.
Pros
Fun brand, innovative, lots to do
Cons
Little work life balance, old school benefits team, arrogance, much posturing needed to succeed
