I worked at Target full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Brand, brand, brand, except in Canada.

    Cons

Everything. Target is a clean version Wal-mart. It does not follow through with promises, starts cashiers 5 cents more than minimum wage, so that they can say they pay more than minimum wage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior team lead position is making a non salaried team member do things for which they are not trained. Also expecting a person with a degree to shoot for a job in retail is ridiculous. The intern program gives kids straight out of college keys to the store with no retail experience, yet people who have worked hard for the company for years are rarely rewarded, especially since they stopped tuition reimbursement.

I have been working at Target

    Pros

Pay, excellent pay for only needing a high school diploma.

    Cons

Benefits, healthcare is on the rise and coverages is decreasing, and copayments are on the rise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Terrible, no experience supervisors who have a 4 year degree that's never worked in retail in their life telling you how to do tour job.

I worked at Target part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Organized, great communication, liked the people I worked with. Cashier is very user-friendly. Management listens when you have any issues. Great employee discount.

    Cons

Customers could sometimes be rude. Long hours can be mandatory depending on the season we are in. Not much else...

I worked at Target full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Target used to be an amazing company to work for. Once the recession hit in 2008, we got a new CEO and things went downhill fast from there on.

    Cons

Used to be a GREAT company, then the recession hit and we got s new CEO. Then it was cut positions in half, cut anyone that has been there over 10 years because they can pay kids out of college 1/2 the pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Apparently they have a two year staff reduction plan to combat the lost sales from the credit card breach.

I worked at Target part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Easy job to get right out of high school. Can be fun depending on your coworkers and management; a hectic but still somewhat relaxed atmosphere

    Cons

Hard work. You'll be lifting, standing, and walking for the entire duration of your shift. Unless you're sitting in the floor stocking bottom shelves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Try to keep hours consistent.

I have been working at Target

    Pros

Friendly hourly associates and job close to home. Their is no work-life balance because schedules are not set and change every week.

    Cons

Lack of hours and staff, managemnt lazy and not qualified, you are expected to Zone, take care guests, put out merchandise, and ring register. Management looks for any excuse not to promote hourly associate or to get out of a pay raise, and prices too high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff your stores, hire better non-lazy management ,do not hire people and lie to them by saying they are hired full time, have HR in stores actually help employees and not just talk in circles and talk down to associates, and actually train management.

I worked at Target full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Target offers an ever-changing environment, which keeps things interesting. They offer a 10% discount to employees good for most things in the store, which when coupled with a RedCard can save employees some money; this is good because pay is rough for non-salary employees. Company genuinely seems to care about employee health by offering incentive programs such as free flu shots and health-based insurance premium reductions.

    Cons

Hours are based on "guest trends" which is a nice way of saying your hours may seem random. Work life balance is nearly nonexistent; whether working swing shifts, early mornings and/or rotating weekends it is extraordinarily difficult to plan and enjoy life out of work.. Yearly operational changes disrupt workflow and cause high stress to employees, especially during the 4th quarter. Management within the stores has become increasingly disorganized. Pay is negligible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees are the backbone of the company. They work for little pay and have few incentives, which makes generating a positive work environment imperative. Try to offer them as much stability and support in completing their tasks as possible.
