Pros
Fun atmosphere. Upbeat and hip. The job was the same as anywhere else, but the target culture was fun. I found a lot of the policies to be cumbersome, but the overall feeling of the store was always a nice place to walk in to.
Cons
It was frustrating that so many upper level decisions were made by non healthcare professionals. Sometimes you felt you were beating your against the wall with all the stupid thIngs they wanted you to do.
Advice to Senior Management
Let pharmacist make decision that impact the pharmacy. Non healthcare professional just do t get the red tape.
Pros
Hourly workers are friendly, hard working. District management is good.
Cons
Their culture is awful. The slogan is fast fun and friendly, however, Target does not promote being friends with co workers. In fact, you will get in trouble with management for being friendly with others. I was told I was too nice to the employees I managed. The management also constantly talked bad about the hourly employees who busted their humps. As an intern, it was very awkward trying to fit in with the clicky management group. The person training me constantly asked if I said certain things, making me second guess myself and feel as if I am lying. The final straw for me was when a friend walked into the store and I took 5 minutes to discuss what I was working on. I was told that I was "unprofessional" for that. I have taken tours in secured buildings (not public places) to see what other interns are working on. Everyone was very friendly to me and did not have any issue with having visitors. Target does not live up to their standard of fast fun and friendly.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote friendliness among employees.
Pros
Easy to get hired. Job requirements and daily tasks are simple. Pay is average compared to other employers in the area.
Cons
Job is annoyingly simple with very little change in daily tasks. Lower management doesn't have a clue what they are doing.
Advice to Senior Management
Get in touch with what is actually important to running the company. Learn how to do the tasks before making employees do it.
Pros
great culture, fun atmosphere, lots of different personalities, flexible schedule, easy to get time off, quick moving atmosphere, variety of positions
Cons
they will use you anyway they can if they know you want to be promoted, severe favortism, low pay, low raises
Advice to Senior Management
quit delegating all of your tasks to team members and expect them to get their normal core roles completed. do your job yourself.
Pros
*Good hours
*Not an overall stressful job
Cons
*No room for advancement
*Crappy once a year raise, thanks for that nineteen cents, I love making $7.94 an hour
*If you close, you never leave on time
*Little to no room for advancement or raises, even after getting a degree
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize team members with more then just the occasional word, stop showing favorites, and get an idea of how disrespectful it is to sit around having conversations about personal life while we work around your incompetent asses
Pros
Most of the time they are willing to work around your schedule whether that be school or family obligations. You do get a discount.
Cons
Its retail so you do have to work holidays, nights, weekends. The pay could be better.
Pros
Great work / life balance, excellent pay, excellent benefits, friendly team members to work with, always new things to learn.
Cons
Training isn't where it needs to be for new employees, lack of advancement opportunities beyond Team Leader, recognition could be better.
Pros
Many college students worked at target and they were pretty flexible with schedules. The pay was similar, or maybe a bit more, to most other call center jobs. Co-workers and team leads were helpful and fun to be around. Training was also very extensive and helpful.
Cons
This job isn't for everyone. Calling angry customers can wear you down after a while. I only worked part time so I didn't get much benefits. We also didn't get too many vacation days.
Advice to Senior Management
Give meaningful feedback during reviews. Be more consistent in giving advice. Also, while I didn't experience too much myself, I would say that there was a lot of favoritism going on. Please don't be too biased in reviews.
Pros
Everyone in the store get's a 10% discount. Doesn't seem like much to me, but it's something.
Flexible with requested days off.
Has some really nice co-workers.
Flexible with school.
Cons
In Food Avenue, only 2 people work a day. One opens, and then one closes. Its open 9am-8pm. So, there's not a lot of room for extra hours, especially if you have school in the morning. All that's left is nights/afternoons, and weekends. I go to school everyday and I work tues/thurs nights for 4 hours and almost every weekend, but for only 4-6 hours.
Management forgets a lot. You have to remind them many times about things. They don't pay a lot of attention to food avenue until we get our walk throughs. Then they completely freak out and stress too much. They have no faith that we do our jobs right.
I've been told that I was going to be trained in different areas of the store, and they started to train me, but they never finished. I can't work outside of food ave or cashiering because training isnt done.
Management has favorites. They treat everyone equally when it comes to pay and hours and all that, but you can tell who the favorites are. They're hard on the people who arent their favorites. Make their jobs difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to lighten up a bit when it comes to walk-throughs. We understand that it's a big deal, but none of us like the constant pressure.
Pros
If your a hard worker and are flexable youll get 40 hours a week pretty much all the time. It has a great sales floor/backroom system amking the job easy.
Cons
If your a hard worker they dont want to promote you. Its all about polotics. The more you stand around and bs with everyone the better chance you have to promote.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote your hard working team members. Dont just dangle the idea infront of them tell they quit. Stop hiding all the problems with the store from district management.
