    Pros

Target pays competitively in the retail industry. They truly live up to their fast, fun, and friendly workplace. It is a great place to work, and they reward hard work with promotions and compensation. Target focuses on teamwork and on direct feedback. Target offers a great work life balance.

    Cons

Target is more focused on time in position than performance in some cases. Minneapolis is not an ideal location.

    Advice to Management

The time limits on positions are too strict. High performers should be allowed to move more quickly.

    Pros

Work/life balance is great for all. Training and development at the store level is fantastic and anybody wanting a career at target can can great opportunities if they apply themselves> The company is focused on building talent both from inside the organization, as well as building new talent from the outside. As a former intern I can speak to the value the company places on building an executive Team that can achieve, deliver results, and have fun along the way!

    Cons

None that I can think of at this time. Like any job, you get out of Target what you put into it...

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up

    Pros

The people are great to work with!!! Headquaters is probably better than the stores, but it really depends on the type of person you are. There are a lot of different areas to explore and the management allows it!!! The best advice for Target teammembers is to remember you develop your own career. More or less, it is what you make it.

    Cons

It can sometimes require longer hours, but it depends on what business you're working on. Being a BA can be challenging and sometimes you have to make sacrafices to do a good job. Just remember to keep your manager informed!

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

    Pros

Awesome oppportunity for anybody looking for a fast learning job.

    Cons

Huge company, microscopic work that lacks the rewarding nature of some other industries.

    Advice to Management

Try and change the set up from cube city to something less demoralizing.

    Pros

The culture. Management really makes an effort to make it fun and to maintain work/life balance. The company is also very socially conscious. Before budgets got tight due to the lousy economy, we'd do really fun things like have spontaneous ice cream breaks or the entire VP group would go to a theater to watch a movie with free drinks and snacks.

    Cons

It's retail, so the benefits aren't as good as they would be at IT companies. You only get 3 weeks vacation.

    Advice to Management

Greg Steinhafel hasn't been in place long enough for me to form an opinion.

    Pros

Target is a fun, energetic, fast paced company with tons of young people. Probably the best reason to work for Target is the people you will encounter. Everyone is incredibly smart, talented, friendly and usually outgoing. The culture is also great, encouraging a fast yet friendly atmosphere. The culture is also very diverse and open to people of all backgrounds which is great. Depending on who you work for, you will usually have a flexible schedule with a great work/life balance. Another great reason to work for Target is the amount of time and money they will invest in your personal development. They want you to succeed and they will do what they can to make sure you do.

    Cons

With such a large organization, it can be difficult to navigate through all the politics that go hand-in-hand with an organization this size. It can be pretty difficult for people in hourly positions to get promoted into a position with a salary.

    Advice to Management

    Be more transparent.

    Pros

Ability for advancement for those who work hard and are college degreed. Great culture base, but does depend based on store leaderships influence. Fairness and consistency. Clear and concise communication from headquarters teams. Good communication from District and group level teams. Clear and open expecations for every position.

    Cons

Ability to manage work life balance. Recognition is not always consistent from senior leadership. It is stressed at the store level, almost force fed, but not always received in such a manner. Employee morale is generally good from store to store, but can be inconsistent depending on the leadership at each store.

    Advice to Management

Feedforward based advice/help rather than some times having a "gotcha" approach to problems and problem solving.

    Pros

Target is a great company who is always changing and looking for new innovative ways to develop the team and the profits through advertising and great guest service.

    Cons

Occasionally team members are not given all the information they need inorder to successfully manage their jobs performance.

    Advice to Management

It would be nice to see more DTL and Group/Regional Leadership in the stores.

    Pros

Target's fast paced culture makes it possible to learn a lot in a very short amount of time. There are opportunities for advancement and the pay was competitive for the industry. Work life balance is possible and everyone has a great deal of respect for each other.

    Cons

The "fast, fun, and friendly" culture isn't for everyone, but if you live it you will excel. While it's possible to stand out, it feels like it's not possible to advance as quickly as at some other companies. Also, compensation for the retail industry in general isn't as good as some other industries.

    Advice to Management

Create a special program that identifies top performers and places them on a special track.

  11. Wonderful place to start after being a stay-at-home-mom for many, many years.

    Pros

Very flexible with their hours and great opportunity to move up. I applied here after being a stay-at-home-mom for a number of years and cashiering is a very simple job. It is easy to do and it is great to get out of the house. They are very strict about making sure you get your breaks that are required by law. The other people that work there all seem to like their jobs and everyone has a general upbeat view of their position in the company. One thing I like is the anonymity of working with 350+ employees in one store. That can be good or bad I guess. Oh! The 10% discount is nice!

    Cons

Scheduling can be messy but they are always willing to work with you. It is annoying that you tell them you are available 20 hours per week but they schedule you 30 hours per week anyway. Sometimes they schedule you 6 days out of the week and think it is no big deal. They need to hire more hourly workers. They need to stop penciling in shifts that don't work with my availability. You have to be an advocate for yourself about the scheduling or else they will walk all over you until you say something.

    Advice to Management

don't schedule more than an employee says they are available.
