I have been working at Tarkett full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    It's a job....
    Retirement match at 4%
    Job security
    Good work life balance

    Cons

HR only hires people they know who are usually not qualified. There is absolutely no career advancement. Regarding the higher paying jobs the mangers are placed in the positions not hired from within at all. Managers put off their work on everyone else. The lowest paid employees end up keeping things moving because the managers are either no where around, do not know what to do, or take so long to figure it out it takes 10 times as long as it should.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement employee advancement programs. Even if there is not much extra pay at least give a job title to match their experience or job within the company.
Recognize employees' hard work from time to time

    Pros

The best thing about working at Tarkett is the day you quit or get fired. This was once an excellent company to work for and do business with. Had high quality products and an excellent to market strategy. Customer focus use to be number one priority. That is all gone now.

    Cons

Terrible management. Horrible IT management and systems. Down for days at a time. Management does not understand the business and treats people horribly. Quality of products has slipped since bought by Tarkett.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to France. Retire. Close.

I have been working at Tarkett full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fantastic learning experience about how NOT to treat your employees. What I have learned in the past two years with stick with me for a lifetime. For the most part the Johnsonite brand is top not. I cannot say the same for the rest of Tarkett's many other brands.

    Cons

Management is about as approachable as a wounded bear. When I first signed on they said it was an open door policy, while this is true; you are more likely to be walking into a sleeping bear's den. Absolutely NO training program has been established for newcomers and you are treated as such. At Tarkett man is an island, good luck crafting a boat. When you approach management and ask for more train you are swept to the side time and time again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop playing favorites, develop a training program and pull the company together.

I worked at Tarkett full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people really care about the company.
Globalization of the company and processes is taking root.
    Commercial division maintains margins.

    Cons

Management really beats down the employees with little respect for an individuals time. Need to employ more people to cover.
Corporate is in France and they have very little experience in doing business in the North America.
Management does not take responsibility for decisions made. they always try to change their minds and blame someone below them.
Management does not seem to have the employees best interest in mind. There is almost NO skill development through training or upward mobility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on one major project at a time. There is too much going on all at once and it takes away from the quality.
Provide opportunities for employees to grow professionally.

I worked at Tarkett full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Tarkett/Johnsonite has introduced some new products and maintains their margins. Many distributors like them. The company should benefit from the rebound in commercial building.

    Cons

The management is very insular. The President ventures into the plant once per year. Outside ideas are not welcome. Nepotism abounds. Manufacturing is a step child to “customers.” Good people are marginalized. Systems, procedures and controls are weak. Problems are covered over with band aids.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of the corner office and walk through one of the plants once a day. Try saying "thank you."

I have been working at Tarkett full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Location, steady paycheck, no local tax deducted, medical insurance is not very good.

    Cons

Bad leadership, very unprofessional at ALL levels. They will lie to you. Very hostile (us against them) environment with the workforce, and it is perpetuated by management. Stay away! Previous Johnsonite was bought by Tarkett for the brand only, possible closure in the future.
