Advice to Senior Management
Advice to RMG : Ask the employee what he wants before allocating...don't just force anything upon him
Advice to HR : Don't be a puppet in the hands of senior project managers
Pros
- Brand Name.
- Moderate Work Pressure.
- Decent environment
Cons
- No hangouts to increase employees interaction.
- No Appreciations
Advice to Senior Management
A Regular appreciation is a must to motivate the employee. Bonus to the achievers is a motivator too.
Pros
Open Culture, understands and accepts the local employees in every country on equal footing. Good package @ onsite , plenty of onsite oppty, growth plan is objective & clear.
Cons
Middle management is sitting and eating a lot of breathing space/ top heavy and very Hierarchial , promotion policies cannot be tweaked much for high performers, no quality work , proper services company. Not good options for continuing education.
Advice to Senior Management
Route a way around middle management , to sometimes get rid of numbers. Employees are teated as herds without much choice left to them. Put in place university program to enable people to continue education.
Pros
all round development.. if u say, u will get the work u want..
senior mgmt at consultant levels listens on u'r concerns .. wat they do wid them. it is on u..
TCS mumbai has good work culture than delhi...
all policies depend on client.. he can allow facebook or he can't allow u to open tcs mailbox..
timings are bit flexible if the concerns are genuine.
flexibilty in choosing the project as long as requirements match to u'r profile.
shift strech is normal.
Cons
mgmt is ineffective in sharin the work.. some have hell lot of work n others don't have in the same project. dey just divide the application,..
They believe in learning n sharing So u can't expect an outside training as long as business is not paying for it.
again lack of mgmt in giving onsite opportunity.. 1 project will be sending a fresher at site and others hav 7 yrs guy wid no onsite exposure.
Performance appraisals is a joke...
make u wait n wait for onsite rather than release u from the project so that u can look 4 onsite from other project..
each TCS office has its own policies wrt stationery to other facilities.
they have hell lot of ppl but they expect PL to manage alongside technical stuff..
Advice to Senior Management
performance appraisal needs focus, salary compensation is a big concern..giving onsite opp needs attention who is doin what and how much exp he is.. share the work, not applications
Pros
Big company, one gets to learn a lot. Personal and work life balance. Location all over the world and in different domains. Strong technical growth
Cons
Pathetic compensation package at the starting level. Low professional growth opportunities. Weak leadership and management. Stagnation within a domain and field.
Pros
Brand name. A good starting salary
Cons
. Nowadays mass recruitment has resulted in a dilution of talent pool.
. You are fortunate if you find a good boss.
. Employee grievance redressal mechanism is not effective. For the first two years, it is tough.
Advice to Senior Management
Give people, roles according to their skills and interests.
Pros
Great Work-Life Balance, Understanding Seniors.
Responsibilities are put on the shoulders at an early stage.
Completely upto an individual on how to grow, can say no to assignments.
Flexible work timings.
Cons
Not much of High End Consulting work.
Projects/Assignments come from IT ISU's hence inclined towards IT.
No Great Business/Management Consulting except - Organizational Change Management.
Salary not at all near the industry standards.
No Flyback options, not great travel arrangements when travelling for assignments.
Lack of some great Mid-Management level associates.
Advice to Senior Management
To be a Top-End Consulting firms first start thinking and acting like one. Invest in people and the returns will be much higher. Dont just settle for anykind of assignments, analyze if they are good for the image of the Consulting arm of TCS.
